I was looking at Rick Smiths draft classes while he's been here, and I just really have a hard time calling him a terrible GM. Yes he hasn't gotten us a QB yet, but besides that he seems to have consistently solid draft classes the last couple of years outside of 2013 which in context isn't a huge fault on him. 2011 NFL Draft: 4 solid players-stars in Watt, Reed, Yates, Newton. 2012 NFL Draft: Whitney Mercilus has emerged into a beast. Brandon Brooks is a elite-near elite guard. Ben Jones is a very solid center. Crick besides this past season has been very good for us. 2013 NFL Draft This was a horrible class for not only us, but for most NFL teams. It is considered one of the worst classes in the past 15 years along with the 2009 class. But we still managed to snag an absolute stud in Hopkins 2014 NFL Draft Clowney when healthy is a dominant run defender and has improved greatly as a pass rusher. XSF while it hurts to not get Carr/Teddy has been much better after his slow start in his rookie year. He brought stability to our offensive line shuffles early on this season. C.J is a good run defender and has shown improvements this year, but not to the level we hope for. While people want to fault the Nix draft, Everyone praised us for the pick because he was a 1st round talent. Just a gamble that didn't work. Savage is still to be seen. Pagan is nothing. Hal emerged as an excellent safety this year and Blue has been a consistent role player. Ballentine showed tons of physicality when he was healthy. Prosch is also solid. 2015 NFL Draft: Kevin Johnson[/B]: Showed flashes of being a top-tier corner. His injury slowed him down big time as the season went on Benardrick Mckinney: Has played very well this and showed excellent instincts. Jaelen Strong: Was productive when he got snaps as the season went along. We wanted Tyler Lockett here, but Seahawks beat us to it. Reshard Cliett: We apparently liked him alot in camp before he got injured. Keith Mumphery: He did play a ton of snaps for us this year, whether or not he was good remains to be seen. Solid role player Christian Covington Solid role player that helped minimize the bad Wilfork signing. Kenny Hilliard: Cut, but was a 7th round pick Our UDFA class was pretty useful: Kurtis Drummond, Khari Lee (got a 6th for him), Kendal Lamm,

This team has alot of holes: depth in general (defense primarily), competent and consistent quarterback play, a game changer at RB, playmaking from WR2 or any TE. We haven't had the track record of making outlandish decisions during free agency/draft, so I don't expect that to change. If there is a guy that they truly believe will add wins to this football team for years to come, do what it takes to get him.

Two who will almost certainly be gone are safety Rahim Moore and tight end Garrett Graham, who were inactive for about half the season. That would give the Texans an additional $5 million in salary cap space. Probably the most obvious move possible would be cutting Hoyer in order to save BOB from himself. Let's see if they are smart enough to do it.
