Uh, he was the finals MVP and a two time all defensive team recipient and was generally regarded around the league as a player who would have been a superstar in year 3 on a lottery team. All of this before he resigned with the Spurs. Keep grasping.

...and just about every org in the NBA sucks compared to the Spurs.

Had some great moments tonight. His defensive rotations can be beautiful, just gotta get him involved in the offense. Now his feet are wet and I expect nothing but greatness out of him moving forward. Thank God the trade didn't go through.

While the statline and turnovers weren't pretty, it was refreshing watching DMo share the ball. There was a really pretty moment where he passed the ball behind his back...

He has a relatively low cap hold, so Morey will see what he gets offered. If we move Brewer then there is a chance we can keep him while signing 2 max FAs.
The risk is real for any team so it will affrct his suitors. Could end up on a bargain level deal

DMo said that he would contact lawyers because he was fit in Detroit and they decided to cancel the deal. Therefore, his market value was lowered.

Unbelievable that the folks screaming the loudest about the Rox not developing young players are also those with a hard on for DMo. What... Did the Rockets not develop him? Do you people have any recollection of DMo when he first came in the league?

And then folks are talking like we already let him walk in free agency. How can you judge something that hasn't even happened yet? This situation actually reminds me a bit of when Lowry was a free agent the first time restricted and the Rockets easily matched when they got a good value contract.

So judge the Rockets for POSSIBLY NOT matching DMo's contract IF the contract is overpaid and will not be good contract value if you want to preemptively, but I prefer personally to wait until something actually happens to judge.

If DMo's offers are good value and the Rockets don't match (and it doesn't impact their bigger free agency plans)... Yes you have a right to be pissed. Being pissed in February and free agency that happens in the following July is idiotic IMO.

First off, I never had an issue with my back..could hoop/run all day...until a drunk woman T boned me..so, I know quite a bit about this. If you've never had a back injury, it's kinda hard to relate to. Skiing/swimming strengthens the core muscles around the injury, but I haven't had the luxury of incorporating either into my routine for awhile.

    Anyway...

At 7 feet, DMo's multifaceted game/abilities are what make him so unique.
This versatility might erode some due to the back. That said, I've always believed that much later in his career he would become almost exclusively a post up player...with his dazzling array of moves. Once the mobility decreased, I always figured he would add some lbs and work them over down low more. So, something to think about later...some insurance.

For now though, let's hope he catches up and gets back to his old self...on the way to where he was headed. Perhaps that back is a ticking bomb, perhaps not...WE SHALL SEE.

Tough decisions coming, but DMo has a natural feel to his game that makes his teammates better (great passer w/super instincts)...He can still bust the three...and has that mad post up game...and plays great position D. So, while he might not put the ball on the floor as much...The back deal might just result in some changes in his game....tweaks that still make him more than serviceable.

And we'll get him much cheaper.

Source? Everyone seems to be skipping over this, but what would the consequences be if Detroit voided the trade simply because they had buyers' remorse, rather than a genuine concern over DMo's back?

They can't sue, it is all a matter of risk. They could have their doctor say he is at greater risk of rein jury, and that is enough to void the deal. We did the same in the Sean Elliott deal years ago.

If his back hurts, why would he become a back to the basket inside player exclusively?

More likely to become a spot up shooter if movement is an issue.

So someone translated a Lithuanian interview with DMO; here's the transcript translated including some juicy tidbits on Detroit:

Q:How do you feel being back on court?

    – Well, it’s not my first game back, I played in D-League, but it’s really pleasant being back on the Rockets roster and I hope I can help the team more.

Q:What was the situation after the trade with Pistons?

    – The medical examination is a funny thing. The team doctor simply says whether you pass or don’t, although they may not even do any checks. Those 48 hours actually just let the team decide whether they want you or not. The Pistons announced I did not pass the medical, although I surely did pass it and played even before it. I just got ‘screwed’. The injury was a pretense to call off the trade. They changed their minds.

Q: Did you want to play in Detroit?

    – Whether I wanted or not, the trade happened, so I started concentrating on playing there, but we all saw what happened. I was in Detroit, I stayed with the team for 3-4 days. I saw the practice, I did other stuff.

Q:How serious is your back injury, truth be told?

    – Now everything is fine. During the All Star break I worked with a back specialist in Vancouver. When the season ends I will most likely go there again to work some more. As much as I talked to doctors and saw the photos, there is nothing serious, all problems are temporary.

Q: So you are not afraid there is something serious?

    – So far I do not feel anything. Everything’s alright. Some things are really tiresome – I have come to the arena to warm up much earlier, but now it has to become part of my life.

Q: The Rockets wanted to trade you, but now you are staying in Houston. It looks like some sort of misunderstanding?

–I wouldn’t call it that. The Rockets were not giving me away for free, they got a high draft pick. A high pick is very useful, so I completely understand them. From my side, I see it as a business. I know they did not want to give me away and offered many other players to the Pistons, but the guys in Detroit wanted only me. Now I will be talking to my agent and lawyers to clarify what to do next. The Pistons had access to my full medical history, so they shouldn’t have done what they did to me. They decreased my value. The medical examination I ‘failed’ was a joke. The Pistons will have some explaining to do why they did not want the trade anymore. We will see what happens.

Q: What keeps you up at night at the moment?

    – How to help the team reach the playoffs and go as far as possible once there. I am not preoccupied about raising my value, because I play basketball for the love of the game and not for money. Sooner or later the money will come, but you may only win the ring once or twice in your career.

Q: Don’t you think it would be useful for you to play some more in the D-League?
    – I played four games there, I spent the All Star weekend working and I really feel I am not in such a bad shape. I think I’ll stay where I am. It seems the coach also wants me here.

Q: How do you deal with all the ups and downs in Houston?
    – That’s life. You either give up, or you dust yourself off and go further. I stayed in the gym 8 to 5 for three or four months. I will regain my shape. I need just some patience and some consistent work. Of course you can want everything immediately, but that does not happen.

Q: It seems your reaction to the situation is much calmer than when you used to stay on the bench in your first seasons?
    – My reaction is calmer, because I know I am still not in my best shape. I will still need a lot of time in the gym to regain it, and I will fight back for my minutes.

Q:Is there a chance of seeing you in the national team?
    – We will see. It will very much depend on how I will feel now and how the team ends the season. As I said, I will be going to Vancouver as well, then we will see what my schedule is. I will also become a restricted free agent, so there’s that. There are many circumstances at play here.

Nice find! This is for you, DD.

And you expect him to start straight away? Even Donuts admits that he has quite a ways to go.

No, the point was HE WAS/IS fine, just needs to knock off the rust.

So much for the BS about SHUTTING HIM DOWN - when I had heard from my friends in the medical community that he was fine.

Which is one of the reasons I was so pissed off, you don't TRADE young bigs just to kick the can down the road when the upside is so high with this guy.

    Fixed.

Because that's a pretty big "if".

I'd trade Brewer into some other team's cap space for a conditional 2nd rounder, never to be delivered, but Brewer'd have to go on a bit of a tear through the rest of the season (although you'd have to cut the umbilical cord attaching him to JBB, no matter the coaching capacity JBB fills next season; without that nourishment, Brewer might die, but don't tell the sucker team that would take Brewer in the first place).

Exactly. Until this guy actually plays and makes or doesn't make an impact, its all talk. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. Its all opinion and conjecture.

Up to this point D-Mo has had a half season of positive basketball in 4 seasons in the NBA. So 1/8 of the time D-Mo has been good, and 7/8 of the time its been something else.

Love the guys talent, but he's got to show more than 1/8th of the production we are hoping for.

I agree with this. The had a solid half a season last year before getting hurt. But the obsession with DMo on here is borderline disgusting. Losing him wouldn't have been the end of the world, and if he's not going to rebound/defend at PF/C, then I'd take Harrell over him anyday. We need a rim protector besides Dwight
