And they could 'easily' draft another one, as they've shuffled backup QBs behind Brady.

But maybe they want to keep him on the cheap.

I've been speculating on trading for Garropolo for some time... talking to Pats fans, they agree that his value goes down every year he doesn't play/gets older and every year that Brady doesn't show any sign of regression.

They also know that there will be a year that Brady looks mortal... and it may come suddenly/without warning... and that would be the "only" reason to hang on to him (fear of that out-of-nowhere drop off). But, it could also be a steady decline (much like what was seen from Manning 2 years ago, culminating in looking awful in the playoffs, and then leading to this year's mid-season benching), where you hang on to him for insurance purposes... or even to be a mid-season replacement, but you also run the risk of him gaining value and leaving as a free agent for nothing, prior to the team being fully ready to cut the cord on their aging QB (sort of what the Broncos may have to go through with Osweiler if Manning decides to stick around).

If the Texans were committed to getting him, I'm sure there's an offer they could make that the Pats would have to consider it... and this year may be more enticing since they have one less draft pick thanks to deflate-gate.

Won't happen. Broncos would be idiots to get rid of him, unless they have a QB in the draft they like?...

He's a free agent and unless they're willing to pay him...?

    ...

Manning himself could command a big salary if he wanted to hit the free-agent market. His shortcomings at age 39 are well documented, but he’s still a better short-term option at quarterback than what the Los Angeles Rams and Houston Texans have at the moment. Both of those teams would be the most viable landing spots for Manning because they are viable playoff contenders for the 2016 season.

The Rams, Texans and other quarterback-deficient teams also could become flies in the ointment for the Broncos if they want to offer Osweiler a mega-sized deal under the belief that he will become a franchise passer as a full-time starter. Elway told Profootballtalk.com that he was seeking to strike a “middle-class” contract with Osweiler, which would fall more in line with a base salary in the $12 million to $14 million dollar range than the nearly $20 million it would cost to use the franchise tag.

Peyton Manning and his 9 TD/ 17 INT's in 2015 will not land him a contract like that from any team.

    What's wrong with Brock Osweiller?

And if the Broncos are really enamored with Prescott, why are they broadcasting it?

    He's not that good, that's what's wrong.

Damn sure isn't worth the money he's asking for and holds the ball way too long.

Texans would be better suited to trade for Garoppolo (spl.) or signing a cheaper FA qb to help groom a drafted QB.

Brock sucks and what's funny is someone is going to pay him a ton of money and he's gonna fold like laundry.

    Steer clear, Texans......PLEASE!

Jimmy G is a player and he'll be much cheaper and wayyyyy better long term.

I hope the Broncos keep Brock and flounder with him as "the guy"

The article being quoted says 2 times that Osweiler is most likely signing with the Broncos, so not sure what you're so outraged about.

Can we at least wait until the Texans actually do something before we criticize them for doing it?

Not wrong really, just that he's going to command a pretty hefty contract for a relatively unproven player. If the 12-14M range for Osweiller is true, I'd much rather take a look at Kap if he gets released.

Appearing on ESPN's Mike & Mike, Schefter was asked, essentially, when Peyton will announce his retirement. Schefter rejected the premise of the question, stating that Manning would like to keep playing. Here's a transcript of his full response:

He'd like to keep playing. In a perfect world, he'd like to keep playing. The question is who's going to give him an opportunity. And it's tough to identify that team right now that's willing to sign him to the deal that makes it worthwhile for him, that allows him to continue playing.

Does he want to go move to another city? Because I think everbody at this point accepts and understands that he's not going to be back in Denver. So the question is where does he go and play. It's not going to be the Houston Texans. It's probably not going to be the Los Angeles Rams. So you go find a team that would be willing to sign him.

Now, there are a couple of other opportunities he'll have: TV has expressed interest in him and my understanding is one network -- and there are many of them -- would like him to be a color analyst for games and could potentially put together a lucrative offer. I don't know that he wants to do that.

There are multiple teams that have already expressed interest in him in working in a front office capacity and position. Eventually, I think he winds up doing that. But it's not before he exhausts all options and I think he'd like to continue playing if given the choice. But right now, it's tough to see that choice identifying itself and stepping forward and having something out there that would be an obvious match for both sides.

Now, again, dominoes start falling. Moves start being made; one move begets another. All of a sudden, you didn't see Denver losing Brock Osweiler. 'Well how'd they lose Brock Osweiler?' And all of a sudden, 'Well maybe we should bring back Peyton Manning for one year.' So things happen that change the dynamic of the situation, but as we stand here today on March 1, with the deadline franchise tag being at 4 o'clock today, it's tough to find a match, as much as I think he would like to continue playing.
