players are getting too adept at making 3's...and Curry is just unstoppable... like who pulls up from 35 to end games...Curry...
Hand checking isn't going to help with 32 ft 3s. Those old salty players need to recognize the goat is here.
Do you know how many new fans the NBA has created with this "brand" of basketball? Do you know how many Stephen Curry fans there are? If anything, they're going to vouch for even less contact... More ticky tack stuff. Offensive excellence/scoring sells the league... Plain and simple.
I didn't detect any hate in the OP. I think he's just talking common sense. Curry is a wizard but his style of play is also going to ruin the upcoming generations of basketball, or definitely have an adverse effect for sure. The irony is people b**** and whine about Harden's "flopping" ruining the game when Curry is the one changing the game, for better or for worse. Defenders should have more options at their disposal, he's an incredible shooter but there needs to be some middle ground, if you sneeze on him it's a foul.
If players coming out of high school or college want to be like Curry, then I'm all for it... ...because Curry's shooting is once-in-a-lifetime. Players thinking they can imitate Curry will probably get a rude awakening. If you keep jacking up shots thinking they'll go in, your coach will bench you. It's a slippery slope all the way down to one being undraftable or having to change your game. Players like LeBron and Harden have the means to practice their shot, as they have access to facilities. But you don't see them try to imitate Curry on a nightly basis because they're aware of their limitations. New waves of players will be too.
Unless your on the Rockets and then by all means, KEEP JACKIN' THEM THREES! I know, you're talking about kids basketball.
There is no way I hate Curry... sure jealous he doesnt play for my Rockets, but cant hate the dude...He really is a perfect guy off the court and an assassin on it. I just believe that defenses need opportunities once again...
Hand checking is the most overrated tactic ever. It was mainly useful to impede the progress of back it in post players, like Barkley used to catch the ball far away and butt his way down low. Really has nothing to do with a guy draining 33 foot contested 3's.
No, it was also used to try and stay with a perimeter player when they were trying to penetrate or move laterally. The NBA got rid of it after 94... Then took it one step further and got rid of ALL contact on the perimeter in 99. Some say just re-allowing that contact on the perimeter may be ok now, as the offensive skill has now caught up to the physical advancement of the players that hindered offense in the mid-90's... But the NBA isn't going to mess with the game when they're getting these sorts of historic offensive performances. Also, Barkley wasn't backing in anything till he was well past his prime and hand-checking was all but gone.
I'd rather future generations of basketball fans try to be like curry as opposed to the And 1 street ball generation of Marbury, Steve Francis and Iverson.
He's great bc the league Looks the other way on Green's illegal screens that get Curry wide open shots.
And obviously it didn't work all that well because defenses then weren't especially effective compared to today. The hand check is the "2 miles uphill both ways in the snow" of players from the 80s and 90s to rationalize how they have been surpassed. It happens fellas, deal with it.
The NBA isn't bringing back hand-checking, OP. Offense is good for business, and helps bring in casual fans and keeps them entertained. (That is true for just about all sports in the pros and college, which is why there's been these recent rule changes in various sports.) The old-school hardcore basketball fan might like physical grind-it-out play, but that is too slow and boring for casual fans. Leave the 90's six feet deep in its coffin. That era ain't coming back. What I'd like the NBA to do is crack down on guys like Draymond Green.
Exactly. Remember those Pistons from 2002-08? East finals every year, 2004 champs, masters of the 88-77 game? Yeah why the hell would you want that to be the face of your league.
Curry is the best there's been, but the next generation is going to catch up even more. A league with 3 guys like Kerr or (healthy) Korver on every team won't be hard to achieve.
