No wonder he was being extra generous in his parting comments. We did him a solid.

What's the love for KJ? He's a very low basketball IQ player. I'd be interested in seeing him more in an actual NBA game standpoint, but in Philadelphia and even Clemson I watched him a lot. He's a freak athlete that's great at weak-side shot blocking, and a pretty decent rebounder in a small-ball lineup. Outside of that, he gets lost in basic offensive sets, his awareness in defensive coverage is horrible, etc. I hope he's developed beyond that, but I'm not sure.

I'd rather play him than Brewer most nights

guess i have to spell it out for you

keep mt this season as insurance for harden, and for bench offense if we need it which usually we do. if we dont need ti then kj can get his minutes if jb is going that route

in the offseason morey can ask him to stay and do a s&t in a big trade. he'll get a better role on his new team and more money

same goes for lawson, keep him as insurance this season, then see if he he agrees to stay in the offseaosn for a s&t trade. if they dont agree to stay, the at least we have them as insurance

You are talking about free agents who have Early Bird or Full Bird Rights. I already explained this. Thornton only has Non-Bird Rights -- the weakest of the lot. We can only sign him for 120% above the vet minimum with that exception. Teams who want him will just outbid that with their own exceptions or capspace. They don't need us to sign him with an exception.

So, he has zero SnT value. Also, SnT no longer provide more money to a player vs had they just signed outright with the new team. The new CBA got rid of that. And they require a contract for at least 3 years.

I can spell it out for you more if you want, just ask.

who the hell's gonna sign thornton to anything more than a cheap contract? he does an s&t with us, he gets a better role on his next team which will lead to a better contract next offseason

mt and ty are guaranteed to have a better season with their next team. rockets are too stupid to use them properly

Exactly. He'll sign for a cheap contract via some exception the other team already has. There is no incentive for them to give us anything back of value via a SnT for a mere 120% above vet minimum deal. Nor would Thornton want a cheap contract for three more years, which is a requirement for a SnT.

Get it? What incentive does the other team have to give us anything back, when they'll just outbid us with a portion of the Mid-Level or Bi-Annual Exception. Or just outbid us via more years.

Heck, he might get more money in Europe or China than what any NBA team will offer. He's been on 5 teams already.

It's Harden's fault those 5 teams didn't want to keep him though.

by s&t i dont mean mt will be the best trading piece. i mean he and ty resign, and get packaged in a trade.

he re-signs with us for another 1 year contract, not multi year contract. ty's option is picked up. then we package both of them in a trade. if that doesnt work then we at least have them as insurance this season.

i'd rather lose them for nothing int he offseason then lose them for nothing now. then sign someone when we already have guys like kj and harrel. we dont need to sign anyone, we just need the coach to stop being stupid and play these guys. they're not gonna get much better rotting on the bench

You still don't get it. The only way we can trade Thornton is via a SnT. A SnT requires a contract of 3 years. You said yourself, he will only get a cheap contract, and won't sign a multiyear.

As for Ty, really? You really think we should pick up is $12m option year...*and* believe another team will trade for that?

Don't waste your time lol. You clearly explained why MT has no value to this team past this year, but he isn't listening

oh now i get the snt. and i know cnat be traded till dec if he signs another min contract. that was stupid of me

the toher team can look at ty as a big expiring and low risk/high reward. by high reward i dont mean a near 20/10 pg, i mean a decent rotation player. if it doesnt work otu then they still have a big expiring. ty is an excellent contract matching trading piece. thats the main reason rockets should keep him.

He wasn't very efficient at all. Kinda sucked at shooting consistently and played zero defense and didn't get boards.

He scored and contributed to the bench. All you can ask from a pro.

His falling out was a tad negative but we all know JBB isn't that good of a coach

I felt that MT was a decent playmaker and secondary scorer.

On those nights where James doesn't go off for 45 we have no other real scoring options.
Thornton would sometimes provide that spark.
No just a chucker, but he drove the lane and created many times.

    Sure, sometimes he went cold.
But ever heard of Corey Brewer?
He could drive the lane, bend like a rubber band and heave the ball with his left hand
off the backboard 3 times straight and stay in the game.

One gets cut, the other is a starter playing major minutes?

It's too bad that Thornton and the Rockets couldn't work things out. We are short on talent.
