Only if Cruz drops out. If Cruz stays in the race past super Tuesday then Trump will be the nominee and the Republicans will be done for.
I don't know nationwide, but anecdotally I know many hispanic folks that are already registering themselves and others just on the presumption that Trump would be the nominee, and it's precisely because of Trump's remarks regarding hispanics.
I will be really surprised if people who aren't registered to vote yet show up on election day to vote in large numbers. I don't buy it.
I've swayed on him and criticized him a lot, but he seems to be the best and safe bet. Christie's comments do hold water though, having another fresh blood senator is not what this country needs. I didn't vote for Obama either time and dislike Hilary, but the GOP has been doing everything possible to scream kray for the past decade...making it extremely difficult to vote for them. Apart from cutting off my own hand before it can cast a ballot for cruz, and trump for that matter as well (although he is better than busTed), I've never been so unsure about who to vote for.
So these people are Hispanic and were all in on Trump ready to make america great again then they heard what he said about Mexicans and bailed. Seems legit. There are a myriad of reasons to vote against Trump. I don't see it as an Hispanic issue and his results show that.
I'd say it's the opposite. Cruz might beat Trump, but Rubio will not. If Cruz dropped out (and knowing him, he won't until he's mathematically eliminated), his supporters won't all go to Rubio as the anti-Trump. Many of them will go to Trump as the anti-establishment. If Rubio dropped out though and left the race to two anti-establishment characters, Cruz would probably benefit more than Trump on the anyone-but-Trump motivation. I think Rubio's window is already closed; Cruz's window is barely open a crack; and all signs point to Trump being the nominee (tragically but hilariously).
I am not sure how you reconcile both these views. Rubio's entire message is that the republicans have been doing a good job the last 16 years and he's a continuation of that. That's precisely why I view him as the most dangerous of all the candidates.
I disagree, the disdain for Cruz is strong, almost like it is for the people that don't like trump (maybe stronger). The guy built the perfect tasting cake for evangelicals and they decided to munch the turd Trump gave them instead. I think its pretty clear that people don't go for the issues nearly as much as the person they can identify with. Rubio is easy to identify with and I can see him getting a lot of support. Cruz is done though.
That's why I've swayed on him, at the beginning and at certain points he's basically reading the scripted version of what the establishment wants him to say. Also, any candidate up there not named Cruz or Trump has been pushing that message, it's taboo to criticize the base/Iraq war/Bush administration regardless of what their feelings are. That being said, you have a crazy rich man with a Hitler like following with this neo-white nationalist movement, and on the other hand you have a terrible human being that lacks any semblance of authenticity to the point that nobody likes him or has anything good to say about him (for good reason). To serve his own purpose, I'm convinced that Cruz would consider dragging this country down to swamp if he needed to. So in a relative sense, I'm not saying that I particularly like Rubio, its just that if you serve me cold turd, warm turd, and rotten oatmeal....I'll take the item that is least likely to kill me and is easier to stomach.
I feel you. I have always disliked Rubio and wanted him removed from any chance at POTUS, but when he said that he thanked god every day that George W. Bush was the one that got to react to 9/11, I wanted to put my fist through the TV screen. That comment should be enough to disqualify him from holding any office whatsoever. Rubio has the judgement of a imbecile, but he makes up for it by speaking 400 words per minute.
Well sure, Cruz might have a chance at the nomination if Rubio drops out, but he won't have a chance in a national election. Of the Republican field, only Rubio could actually get elected.....of course apparently Republicans don't care about actually winning the election so maybe that's a moot point. If Cruz, Kasich, and Carson dropped out today, Rubio would win the nomination and have a very good chance at winning the presidency. If those people stay in, the Republicans will lose the presidency guaranteed.
Eh, Rubio seems like a nice guy and all, but I don't think people vote for nice guys. He's a bit lacking in gravitas. Cruz, as punchable as his face might be, has gravitas. Even Trump, despite being a bit of a fool, has it as well. Being the 'angry guy' probably helps them in regard to projecting power. Between Rubio looking young, looking beholden to establishment powers, and apparently unable to think on his feet and speak extemporaneously when called upon, he's a bit too milquetoast to really be president. He is, at best, the least bad option. But, I've been wrong all season about Trump. Apparently there's something about Americans I fundamentally have not understood. Maybe I'm wrong on Rubio too, but Trump is starting to look inevitable anyway. Neither Cruz nor Rubio will drop out before Super Tuesday. After that, it'll be too late anyway.
i'm hispanic and the reality is that many hispanics i know feel exactly the same as trump. i'm not kidding.
Watch a bit of "Honey Boo Boo" and "Hillbilly Handfishin'" and then realize that BS like that had great ratings and then you'll understand enough about Americans to realize why there are those who vote for Trump.
The election nerds say otherwise. Apparently the majority of Cruz supporters are pretty anti-Trump at this point.
We've got it, Bobby. You don't think Trump has any chance of winning and you think that everyone who supports or thinks about supporting him is complete idiot. We don't need 25 posts per day stating the exact same thing over and over again in every thread.
No, you're inserting things that weren't part of what I claimed. They are hispanic, and weren't interested in politics very much at all. But then Trump spouted off they became interested and started getting active in politics at that point. They also are actively recruiting others against Trump. Some of his results show that in certain states. Though even those polls are shaky. http://kval.com/news/nation-world/explaining-donald-trumps-latino-win-in-nevada-caucus. Again, I'm only speaking anecdotally and by no means am I claiming a national statistic showing what I've seen.
