OK Trader_Judoka. Thanks for putting me in my place. I've done all I can by early voting for Bernie and I'll just sit back and enjoy all the name calling from both sides. Independent, open minded voters like me just don't matter. Gotcha. Other than being disenfranchised and believing the system is broken and rigged you have no idea what my voting motivations are on all the issues. Believe me I've thought long and hard about them. In the end, if I were to cast a vote for Trump against Hillary as a vote against the establishment, it will count as much and be as intellectually relevant as your vote. Sorry those of us from the shallow end get the same vote those of you up on Mt. Superior.
They are in place in 80 countries in the word, so I agree. Too bad average Americans are okay with wealthy being greedy and being taken advantage of. FDR, Rosevelt had policies way to the left of this and they succeeded and weren't unrealistic
I don't see how assigning different weights to political issues is at all relevant to intellectual depth.
If going along with Sanders plans doesn't have the negative consequences they would, there would be room for them to support versions of Sanders plan, especially if there were deals made with them to bring forward other legislation which their constituents might be grateful for.
Probably every bit as realistic as Sanders being a legitimate contender for the Democratic presidential nominee going into March 2016. One year ago, nobody would have called that realistic. Yet it was tried, and now it is realistic.
San Marcos became the first Texas city to adopt the $15 dollar minimum wage that Sandwrs will campaign for
I know. That's my point. A year ago nobody would have said that was realistic, and yet it has come to be. So to say his ideas aren't realistic is silly, when he's already accomplished the unrealistic. I don't understand why you think I was trolling since I'm a huge Sanders supporter, and have been arguing in his favor this whole time?
If I would have said 8 years ago that we should put cameras on all law enforcement you'd have said that was unrealistic.
I'm disappointed. I was hoping for "Texxx_Judoka" or "Fisher_Judoka". My post are much more smug than they are bombastic. Of course it will be as relevant. If you vote for Trump because you like the color orange is as relevant. Anger is obviously a strong motivator for voting but it is one of the worst reasons for governing. Now I don't know you well enough to say what your political leanings are but there implications to who is governing. A Trump presidency and a Sanders will both a departure from the establishment of either party but that is like saying that I need a house torn down and deciding whether I do a controlled demolition or just pour gasoline over it and torch it. True you do. It's a big responsibility that too many don't exercise or think about.
There will have to be deals made but that brings up the other point is how much of Sanders' vision gets compromised that those hoping for a revolution will accept. I agree with you that semantics are important but I think you are putting too much stock in it. Consider the rhetoric that many Republicans have leveled at Obama. The truth is that they already think Obama is a socialist and I'm not talking the Swedish kind. As you and I would agree this country isn't the collective hell hole that many conservatives make it out to be but that hasn't made progressive ideas such as national health care more palatable to the GOP. If anything it's inflamed them.
I still don't see how the fact that other developed countries pull off free public college will lead us to conclude that this will somehow improve the state of our economy or employment status. Unlike guns which have a clear causal link to higher rates of homicide and suicide in this country versus other developed countries that ban guns, there is no such link between heightened education and an improved economy. Look to Europe: everyone has a college degree and there are still no jobs. By making a college education free for all, you make it less meaningful for all. People will have to do more to differentiate themselves from their peers, or they will have to start using even less fair personal attributes such as family connections. Nepotism is rampant in developed Europe, and in a sense the capitalist method of "pay for your advantage" is actually a much more egalitarian means for the lower and middle classes to aspire towards social advancement. Families that stick together and pool resources end up getting ahead, and we are seeing this in practice with Hispanics, Asians, South Asians etc. No matter how you splice it, families from around the world still flock to America because they believe in the American Dream. There is no such thing as the European Dream. You think free college will move us forward? Think again.
Agree, but why has neither Obama nor Warren released in public their support for either candidate? It is because their is no political advantage in doing so and only hurts their party. Once it is overwhelmingly clear who the nominee is, they will announce their support for Clinton. Their is a lot of political maneuvering going on behind the scenes, primarily by Bill Clinton and the power brokers of the party, which are virtually all Clinton/Obama figures. There is a reason the black community leaders have strongly backed Clinton. For someone that fought for Civil Rights in the 1960's and has been very consistent in his beliefs in systemic racism, he is very much out of touch with the modern AA. Claiming HC is pandering to AA isn't going to help him.
Obama sort of needs to support Hillary. If Sanders gets through style and also accomplishments he will solidify the phlegmatic Mr. Obama's legacy as the ineffective ansd ultimately unispiring agent of hope and "yes, we can". With regard to Warren, there may have been a deal for her not to run , but not endorsing is probably Warren not wanting to sully her reputation for principle by supporting the ever flip flopping Hillary on bankruptcy and Wall Street regulation which are Warren's key issues and image. as an advocate for regular folks.
