I selected Lawson because he was the key lynch pin that was supposed to elevate this team from last season. His decline has been unbelievable.

THAT said, I feel like I echo basketballholic's take that it is James Harden. Only so much as he is the best player and a lot is asked of him. He is the engine. Up until this season, he has improved every year he has been in the league. His regression on defense and leadership has had repercussions.

I feel Harden can right himself, but will need a quality offseason to do it. Hopefully he can re-find his game and focus on the Olympic team and use that as a catalyst to have a great pre-season and forward.

TJones is by far and away the biggest disappointment to me.

DMo is hurt, this is a contract year, we let Smoove walk, and this is what you show us? Jesus guy, you're a big reason why these team is falling apart.

i'm not going to say 1 single player, just going to tell it as it is...................The Bench

we haven't had one this season after it being one of our strengths of last season.

The starters get a lead and the bench lose it often

Dmo got my vote but it was close between him and Lawson.

I thought/hoped we were going to get 50-60 games from Dmo and that he would be considered easily our 3rd best player.

Really thought Lawson was going to help a lot with what the team was missing, but still believed Dmo was going to be more of an overall difference maker.

Why is Jason Terry not on this list. No longer clutch and continuously commits terribly timed fouls. Cannot stay in front of anyone. Not real sure why he was in the game during overtime last night. -8 last night and shot 2/9. Anyone on the Vipers could have given us more than he has in the last few games.

We went over this a few weeks ago - what you deem to be "significant" declines in Harden's performance are mostly on the order of 1-3% in most individual categories. He is still at an all-NBA level, and even this season, at basically, the best level of any Rocket not named Hakeem or Moses over a full season

Really? How do you figure? I'm just picking players at random here...but he's not even close to one of the biggest decliners on the Rockets, let alone the whole league.

    BPM (box plus/minus)

    Harden 2015 8.4
    Harden 2016 6.5

    -1.9

    Ariza 2015 1.9
    Ariza 2016 1.0

    -0.9

    Josh Smith 2015 0.9
    Josh Smith 2016 -5.2

    -6.1

    Ty Lawson 2015 0.5
    Ty Lawson 2016 -5.2

    -5.7

    Klay Thompson 2015 2.7
    Klay Thompson 2016 0.5

    -2.2

    Kobe Bryant 2015 0.3
    Kobe Bryant 2016 -2.3

    -2.6

    For fun:

    Michael Jordan 1989 12.6
    Michael Jordan 1992 8.6
    Micheal Jordan 1998 5.3

    Now that's a decline.

    Lawson by a long shot.

Harden not being able to replicate last year's performance is not that surprising.

Dwight's production going down was expected.

Brewer sucking after getting paid? Par for the course.

Terrence Jones not being able to take the next step? Wasn't anticipating on it.

I expected Lawson to put up at least 16 ppg even in a limited role but he's been the biggest bust since Tracy McGrady promised he'd make Stromile Swift into an All-Star.

Lawson and it's not even close. Dude is averaging 6 pts and 3.5 assists this season with a sub 10 PER on top atrocious defense. He can't shoot, gets blocked on drives, can't handle the ball, and is overall a gigantic disappointment.

That's not how those stats work. They are designed to figure out the player's individual impact. They aren't perfect of course, sometimes they overrate or underrate players.

Here's a good article about how "priors" can affect these stats.

Real plus minus went from 8.5 to 4.74. That's a big drop.

Even for the turnovers which people say is only .5 per game, that's a 10% increase.

And I'm not saying he's statistically declined the most in history or even the most on the team. The question is who is the most disappointing, and to me he is. Coming off an MVP season and showing up out of shape, regressing on defense, not quite as good on offense.

I wanted to say Harden, half-jokingly...

    But then Jones, really..

But then Lawson... there are a ton of good picks, but Lawson takes it.

Only Harden, Howard and Ariza have played decently.

Capela, Lawson, Smith, Jones, Moti, Brewer, Bev, Thornton, Terry all garbage

That article seems to add to my point. Not only can I get a positive number for being in the game when my team outscores our opponents; I can also get a positive number because I was so bad last year. Basically you're faulting him for being so good last year.

I know Lawson was an easy choice, still chose TJones. He was supposed to be our starting PF. His game is so bad right now it would be a mercy killing to cut him and let him regain any semblance of a game with another team.

It's Lawson, but the fact that you could make an argument for 2 or 3 other guys on that list is a testament to how ****ty this season has been.

Is it the biggest in the league or even on the Rockets?

BTW, ESPN's RPM seems like it's got some serious weirdness about it that results in big men and players on winning teams get ranked very highly.... or else Boban Majanovic is comparable to John Wall.

BPM seems to generate a more conventional listing.
