At what cost, with what benefit, and what does it say about our country?

I think you should find a quote instead of a paraphrase.

If that's what Cruz means, I haven't heard of him saying it. Enforcing employment law does seem to me to be the best lever for reducing illegal immigration. But, it is either hard to enforce, or there's no political will to enforce it.

The interview on the O'Reilly Factor is reported here:

I suspect a full recording is on the Fox web site if still needed.

I think he has talked about an E-Verify system so I think he's smart enough not to go the Trump route and try to have thousands of enforcement police roaming the country. Yeah it's on his website.

    https://www.tedcruz.org/cruz-immigration-plan/

Strengthen E-Verify. E-Verify – a federal program that lets employers verify the legal status of job applicants – is essential to ensuring that employers are not hiring illegal immigrants at the expense of hardworking Americans and legal immigrants. Despite E-Verify’s proven accuracy and success, Congress and President Obama have obstructed its availability. A Cruz Administration will:

Treat E-Verify as a national security tool: Push to have E-Verify both permanently reauthorized in statute and deemed an essential national security screening tool, to ensure that it operates in the event of a lapse in funding.

Require E-Verify for all federal contractors and subcontractors: Require all federal government contractors and subcontractors to use E-Verify. Companies that refuse to use E-Verify will be barred from receiving federal contracts.

Make E-Verify effortless for the private sector: Determine ways to expand E-Verify without burdening employers.

Not even remotely true. you are thinking of 'removals' not deportations.

you should curb your 'facts have a liberal bias' bull****. Border agents have been complaining about not enforcing the law and you can see why from the numbers above. very scary. looks intentional.

I didn't write the article so I'm not thinking of anything. In fact since you posted something from "The Federalist", I sense that it and you are full of it. You have a graph showing a ten year trend of declining returns and increasing removals from before Obama even took office. Mkay. Then you have some chart without a source indicating the number of deportations by President even though "deportation" apparently ceased to be a legal term used by the government in 1997.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Removal_proceedings

Prior to the passage of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 ("IIRIRA"), deportation proceedings were used to determine whether a person could be deported from the United States. When IIRIRA took effect in 1997, deportation proceedings were replaced by removal proceedings, though any cases begun before IIRIRA's effective date continue to be processed as deportation proceeding.

    And then this.

    http://immigration.findlaw.com/deportation-removal.html

    Deportation and Removal

Deportation, referred to as "removal" in legal terms, occurs when the federal government orders that a non-citizen be removed from the United States. This can happen for different reasons, but typically occurs after the immigrant violates immigration laws or the more serious criminal laws. This section gives a broad overview of the deportation process, as well as some of the forms of relief available that may prevent deportation. Educating yourself about deportation will help you avoid the pitfalls that may cause deportation, and may allow you to stay in the U.S. if you do find yourself in deportation proceedings.

So it looks like the reason why "deportations" are down is that they're no longer in fact legally called deportations. They're called "removals" and if you add up actual "removals" instead of "returns" (which is literally turning someone back around at the border, hardly a "deportation"), that Obama has more removals (deportations) than any President in history as verified by Table 39 at DHS.org.

There are also over 400,000 pending immigration cases right now.

    http://trac.syr.edu/phptools/immigration/court_backlog/

Border patrol staffing has skyrocketed under Obama as well.

    https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/documents/BP Staffing FY1992-FY2015.pdf

    Very scary, looks intentional.

Homeland Security defines deportations as returns and removals. Do you know why? Cause what ****ing good is it to point out the number of illegals being removed from the country if you are letting them in a record rates. Sure you can change the definition if you feel like it, but you are being incredibly dishonest if you think the removals alone is meaningful. Homeland knows its not. If you don't like 'The Federalist', then how about super super liberal Mother Jones:

ITs almost like Mother Jones defines deportations just like Homeland Security.......................

From the Department of Homeland Security website.

    Deportation = removal

    https://www.dhs.gov/definition-terms

Deportation - The formal removal of an alien from the United States when the alien has been found removable for violating the immigration laws. Deportation is ordered by an immigration judge without any punishment being imposed or contemplated. Prior to April 1997 deportation and exclusion were separate removal procedures. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 consolidated these procedures. After April 1, 1997, aliens in and admitted to the United States may be subject to removal based on deportability.

Here is some more incredible dishonesty for you.

Illegal immigration isn't a problem. The Repubs are trying their best to make it seem like it's an epidemic when it is declining. Mexicans have been going back to Mexico over the past 10 years as well. The illegals that are here have been here for many years. Get over it. It isn't a problem.

CometsWin, your data plot lists "batrols" only -- is that a border patrol sortie carried out by the Batman himself, or surrogates?

Maybe TrusTED will get a participation award...

Third place in a conservative southern state. Third place in a moderate western state. At least he is consistent in his lack of appeal...
