I didn't care for the trade, but getting back two irritated players and having one of their values publicly flogged is worse.
I voted no but honestly this isn't a total stinker for the Rox. Cons of the deal being voided: *Lost out on possible lottery pick (obv) *now have to make a difficult decision regarding DMO Pros of the deal being voided: *Draft pool has been rated as weak by some *keep Thornton this season (help playoff chances) and have bird rights to him next season (really like the player as instant offense and he should come cheap) * DMo might be healthy after all (unlikely but hey) *Historically Rox have benefited immensely from botched trade deals We'll see. People are making fun of Morey's draft record because of Dekker, but the dude has been injured. Give him a full season of play and camp before you judge.
DMO does amazing things in the community that none of y'all know about. Last season he helped carry us to our stellar record, he is still young & he loves Houston. He doesn't rely on athleticism that much so when his back heals it shouldn't affect his game that much. A early to mid pick would've been sweet, but trading Jones would've been sweeter! Go DMo!!!
If you're happy that the Rockets gave up a late lotto pick for a 4 week rental of a damaged goods PF, you are simply not a Rockets fan.
I think this proves that everything sucks when you're not happy with your team's performance on the court. We hate the trade and the un-trade. Winning will fix it.
You got to be willing to take RISKS in order to achieve TRUE success in the NBA. Doctors can tell you about knees and backs, but they can't tell you about PASSION FOR THE GAME. DD
Why do I feel like some people are hating DMo personally, for not netting a first rounder. He's an expiring rookie contract, who was contributing big time in the most memorable season for the Rockets in last 15 years or so. DMo doesn't owe Rockets, he's on a cheap ass contract. Since when 20th pick is supposed to be productive player for 3 (ya ya, I know he wasnt productive 2 years) years, then somehow return an even higher pick when his contract has 20 games left? Are you kiddin me? Jones is useless, he was useless last year, he was useless whenever it mattered in his career, somehow I feel you're disappointed in him, but not angry at him that he doesn't net anything in return. Why is DMo supposed to give you a first rounder for trading him with couple months left on the contract?
DMo was a late 1st round pick. Why is everyone poo-pooing a late 1st round pick, when the guy theyre crying about is a late 1st round pick?
Give me EFFORT and TEAM BALL over X-Rays and MRI any day Sheesh, some of you need to watch a game and take off the labcoats DD
Rockets must develop their own talents. I reviewed history of NBA champions and noticed that all teams that won the trophy had a star that was drafted or grown at the club from the begining. Do Rockets have that kind of player on their starting lineup? Rockets never commit future with drafted players. This is the problem.
Keep his bird rights? He'll have the weakest of the Bird exceptions, called a "Non Bird Exception" or "Non Qualifying Vet Exception" It means we can sign him to 120% of his current salary or the vet minimum, whichever is greater. It borders on useless. Since he is currently paid at the Vet Minimum, 120% above that means we can outbid teams who can only offer the vet minimum...woohoo. We can outbid all those teams that Thornton doesn't want to sign with anyhow.
Well, in fairness, he doesn't want to sign with us either, and we don't even want him - so it works out for everybody.
guys like Dmo and TJ were supposed to take those steps not to be stars but to be solid contributors night in and night out. Obviously each of them have their own reasons as to why it hasn't exactly worked out that way.
