Thorton's biggest issue is that he thinks his hot streaks and one good season is who he really is while the down seasons and cold streaks are aberrations due to not getting the right opportunities. He's not a player who knows their role.

I feel Thornton is better on attitude for defense.

This isnt true....even though people on here say otherwise. This is a direct indictment on the coaching staff for the Rockets. Everyone thinks that the GSW are some defensive juggernaut...but they hide their weakness extremely well and frankly their offense can bail out their defense. The Rockets...The Rockets as a whole plays poor defense!! Marcus is actually a decent team defender, and his stats back him up. (The team's worst...Jason Terry, TJones, and Corey Brewer)

This chart would suggest Thornton is a superior defender to Dwight and Trevor. I'm side-eyeing.

    Well said.

I'm not even especially high on KJ, but God I hope we give KJ minutes over Thornton. But, I know we won't.

Jesus he only get paid ONE MILLION dollars, you guys take him as an All Star player?

He's not a player who knows their role? lol. Thornton knows well his role of his career is to score!!! you are not a fan who knows their role!!!

Some fans here like you don't deserve any good players coming to Rockets at minimum wages.

When you question about his hot steaks and cold streaks.

You should question firstly about JBB's rotation.

If he can't make the shots, the coach will lock him in doghouse FOREVER!!!

There's nothing to question. If he's not hitting his shots he's not doing anything else. Quit being fooled with a few shots hit in a row every 10 games.

I feel as if this only made our chemistry worse. This must be very disgruntling for the locker room

One million player can average 10pts, 2rbs, and make 40% shooting percentage. What else you want him to do????

If you mention defense, why don't you look at Brewer, TJ and Lawson???
Thornton is not worse than them at all!!!

To claim Thornton is just straight trash...isnt fair either. The chart is offered by the NBA...so...not really sure why the side eye. The Rockets as a team is the 28 or 29th rated defense...No one on this Rockets team who gets PT really plays solid defense.

Secondly, Dwight is a shell of himself as a defender...Whether he is hurt, or just lost a ton of lateral quickness... People are blowing by Dwight more so this year... I still think a lot of his struggles are about on court effort. When he gets frustrated offensively, he checks out mentally defensively.

Ariza does his job to the best of his ability...but he often times is guarding their best player...His stats are going to be worse...

This thread isn't about any of them. Stick to the topic. Obviously his salary is a priority for you since ü keep bringing it up. There's a reason why he's making that much. He just isn't that good. But to ü bc of his salary it's ok that he is a chucker and allowed to be a bad player

I'm not side-eyeing the stats themselves -- I'm side-eyeing your reliance on them. Stats can be useful, but I am always skeptical about relying on them as unequivocal proof. I'm sorry, but a set of stats that tell me Thornton >> Dwight/Ariza defensively, and Dekker is our best defender -- I'm just not buying them as dispositive proof.

He plays better than half of this team with his minimum wage.

That's great. Obviously there's some truth to that as the rockets are a .500 team who may not even make the playoffs. But that Still doesn't change the fact Thornton isn't that good

Don't want him back honestly, I want McDaniels to get plenty of minutes.

No one demands that you do either. Stats are supposed to aid judgement, NOT to replace judgement/reasoning. To suggest that I only rely on that is also misleading...Never did I once suggest that the way I evaluate our players is solely based on statistics...Infact...its far from the truth. Ive adjusted the stats on this link to a minimum of 40 games played...but before you click on the link...jot down the players you believe are the 5 worst defenders just based on watching this season. Then write down the 5 best...then click on the link below and see if any of the stats matches your visual/intellectual reasoning...

Once again...To claim that Marcus Thornton is pure trash...Is not accurate at all. Surely, I dont think he is one of the better defenders on the team, but he certainly isnt trash.
