Well - clearly with the trade rescinded, it pops the Rockets back over that line that Le$ Alexander hates, the dreaded Lux tax line, he goes from being in line to get some free money from his competitors by being under the tax to being over it, and paying some into that fund that gets distributed. So, who is going to get bought out with enough $$$ to get them under that line, you just KNOW it is coming. And why would a player take the buyout? - Easy answer is joining a playoff team - so the buyout would have to be relatively fast as any player on the roster after March 1st is tied to their own team and inelligible to be on a new team's playoff roster. 1. Lawson - buyout - and free to join a playoff team? 2. DMo - if we are not going to sign him to at least a QO - does he get some freedom? 3. Thornton - did not say some kind things about the Rox 4. TJones - who? Isn't he stepping on a bum somewhere? Anyone else on an expiring deal that could be bought out? Because you JUST KNOW it is going to happen. DD
Doesn't work, guaranteed contract - nice troll attempt sir, but there is no harshing my buzz allowed today. DD
Still doesn't get them under the tax line they would still be paying his contract, or it would count, I guess they could get insurance to pay 75% of it like they did with Yao - but the Lux tax line is different. They could buy him out if the damage is done and they are done with him, that would require DMo to take a little less money this year in the hopes of getting on a team that wants him - and it would make him an UFA - something he might be interested in... DD
ohhh noooo the tax line. how ever will we contend staying under the tax line, liek the warriors or cavs?
I am just saying we will do something to get there, it is what the Rockets do every single year - the DMo trade was as much about that as it was about the pick. Now we have to find another way to save Le$ some money. DD
Les is going to send a case of vodka and 2 strippers to Ty's house and hope he gets another suspension.
Staying under the luxury tax line is just smart business, and smart GM'ing. There are consequences, and incremental consequences to being over it. Why stay over it if getting under it has benefits and no costs. Like the trade in the first place. DMo isn't helping this team improve this year or long-term, and Thorton, a great offensive sparkplug at times, can also be cold and plays no defense. Getting rid of those 2 while getting a lotto pick is just smart business. Now... that's tougher. But if Lawson wants to agree to a meaningful enough buyout, then sure. Seems unlikely. Maybe Thorton, Terry. And DMo and TJones might agree to something, especially if it clarifies their exact FA status sooner for this offseason, but it all seems unlikely.
Hey DaDakota, Every player you mentioned has a guaranteed contract right now. I don't think you know HOW buy outs WORK. IMHO.
What do you mean? He's implying a player with a guaranteed contract - but free agents thereafter - would agree to a lesser guaranteed amount in return for the opportunity to [join a contender?? not sure, but something]. money saved if so.
Oh, DMo is in the original list. Also a buyout does include waiving the player. Didn't get why DD was saying you can't use DMo because of contract. You waive him under the condition of a buyout.
It was in response to Mr. Clutch saying "Waive Dmo"..that I responded would not work if you simply waived him. If you bought him out at a lesser agreed upon amount (would have to be enough to get the Rox under the tax line) then yeah, you waive him. Simply waiving him is not an option. DD
