What? Detroit chose to trade for a player, all while knowing the specifics of his medical procedure and after seeing every current medical record. This isn't a black-or-white situation where Motiejunas is either 100% or 0%. There's a ton of gray area. To use another example, the Lakers traded for Dwight Howard when he could barely walk in the aftermath of his 2012 back surgery. It's a risk that teams can and do take on a regular basis, and it says absolutely nothing about the seller.
SMH, do I really have to spell this out for you? It was a salary dump for the Rockets and it got them a pick while doing so in order to make up for the pick the would have to send out to get rid of the guy they were taking back. The Pistons were actually interested in DMo. They wouldn't have taken Jones because he's terrible at basketball, they wouldn't have wanted him even if they weren't giving up the pick. It's sad that I had to spell that out for you, but hopefully you learn something.
That depends upon whether he thinks a 1 year QO will net him a longer term BIGGER deal. IE - will teams be scared off by Detroit backing out, or did Detroit pull a fast one to get a free look at his back before making an offer this summer? Either way, we got played. DD
Yeah, salary dumps come with 1st round picks. That's just spin and trolling. You admitted that DMo was a key player for Det and that's how we got the 1st rounder. That's the trade. I knew you'd slip up and say it eventually.
Now now HP, no need to get the red ass, our team just got 2 great assets back which can contribute this season, we just got a whole lot better. Let's celebrate the Rockets !!! DD
teams would have wanted Jones if he was traded for free. Don't be ridiculous. He doesn't have negative value.
Really? I mean, really? Let's say I have an animal that has four legs, a long nose, and runs fast. Literally everyone is saying horse, and you are standing in the corner screaming Zebra. I applaud your intellect to think of Zebra, but come on, the simplest answer is often the correct one. DMo has a bad back and is looking to get PAID next summer. Both of these are red flags, so DMo traded him much to your displeasure. The Pistons were willing to pay him, but they didn't want to risk his back. It didn't look good, they thought it over, and they undid the trade. Not that complicated.
Detroit knew he was injured when they traded for him. This is clearly a case of buyer's remorse. They asked for the extension simply to give themselves a chance to void the trade when they realized they would lose their first round pick.
Well yeah, they decided that the risk was too much for them - same as we did with Sean Elliot who played many more seasons and won a championship. I am cool with the Pistons doing what is right for their team - now if they make an offer to DMO in the summer anyway...well..... DD
He was coached by Bullard. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Matt Bullard mentioned to Motiejunas that he was once traded to Detroit, too. D-Mo: "How long were you there?" Bull: "Three days."</p>— Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jonathan_Feigen/status/700389167981694976">February 18, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Detroit could just examine him in the summer and make their decision instead of making fake trades. Maybe, just maybe, there are legitimate concerns about his back that made two NBA teams not want commit to him long-term. When OKC voided that Tyson Chandler trade, they did not pursue him again in the offseason. You're still under the assumption that DMo is completely healthy and worth the risk, when all evidence points to two NBA teams saying no.
Or that he would not be completely healthy enough to help much until next year, lots of things that we can speculate on.... DD
