Undecided on this, will have to kick the can around a bit until I decide I like this turn of events or not.
He may bet on himself to stay healthy, if he did, he could get a LOT more after a healthy season than he'll command now after this nixed trade.
Not a cap expert. But pretty sure if you renounce his cap hold it makes him automatically UFA and Rockets have no right of first refusal.
Dobro will the rockets match for a player that they pretty much can never trade and who isn't an all star?
yes and he could also take a 2 year deal and be more safe. Do you know how few RFA have taken the QO? Counted in in the fingers of one hand. It's incredibly risky for a player. They take the risk upon themselves. If gets one setback during his qo he has no protection no guaranteed income no nothing. IF he had come back by now and was healthy and played like last year, it could be debated. Only because of the cap rise and only if he was feeling very confident. Now? After all this? No way.
The Rockets can wait until the end of the moratorium to renounce his cap hold. So, as long as the Rockets can the 2 Max guys in place before, they will be set. And generally those max guys make their decisions before the end of the moratorium.
The guarantee that the Pistons had with DMo is the remainder of this season. This summer Dmo will be a RFA. No guarantee that the Pistons matches all offers and DMo stays with the Pistons.
Now we might be able to hold on to the 8th seed, get dick slapped by the Warriors in 4 games, and give up our first round pick. HOORAY!
But Morey went through with this trade anyway. So trade being voided doesn't change anything - Morey tried to trade a fd up player.
I thought it was just a salary dump, though. That's what you've constantly said before. If it was a salary dump, then Detroit would be thrilled for TJones and Thornton for Joel Anthony, seeing that we had to add a 2nd rounder to get Philly to take Joel Anthony. But it wasn't a salary dump. Now you see that. It was primarily DMo for a first rounder. And that is why TJones would not have been enough for DET to give up the first rounder. Hypocrite. I saw right through that "It's a pure salary dump" spin the moment you tried it.
I don't even know how to feel....although I'm happy he'll still be a Rocket...just scared of the injury now more than ever. I hated the trade, but if his back is in that bad of shape..... And now he returns, knowing his team didn't want him. Crazy. This franchise is such a mess.
The point was that the Pistons didn't want him as a rental, they wanted him long term. If they didn't want him enough to match all offers, they'd rather just tank the rest of the season and keep their pick which is what they chose to do. Them being on a 5 game losing streak could have also influenced their decision.
He's not taking the QO. What purpose would that serve him? Very little money guaranteed and trying prove he can play on a team that is clearly trying to move on and replace him. He'll take the biggest guaranteed contract he can get. Houston will not match. Period. If we were confident in his back at all, we wouldn't have traded him for a mid-1st round pick. We probably will renounce his rights just like Jones.
Well Morey just drove his stock way to the ground. Basically we might have a way to get back Dmo and Dwight back for dirt.
