I really don't think this is likely. D-Mo should be absolutely livid with the Detroit organization for handling this in the public manner with which they did... if they had just quietly denied the offer at the beginning, none of this gets out. Now it absolutely will have a negative impact on his market. Yes, in theory they could still come in and offer a large deal... but if they did, I think that would throw up ENORMOUS red flags to the league office (and they're not afraid to bring the hammer down on teams for circumventing the CBA, as evidenced by the Joe Smith fiasco). I think it's safe to say Detroit and D-Mo won't be getting back together.
I'm sure Morey is have the NBA investigate this voided traded. It's pretty suspicious for a team to agree to terms on a player with a know injury only to drag completing the trade for days and pulling the rug out.
So did he "fail" the physical according to the Pistons because he might have lingering long-term back issues? Or did he fail in the sense that they don't think he can play right now?
Morey likely knows the bad back issue before a trade. Also the rockets agree the extension asked by Piston. I wonder if the rockets can say "No" if the back is not an issue.
The phone lines between Morey, medical back specialist, league office and the Detroit front office should be hot and heavy about now.
Does DMo have ANY options this summer? Can he somehow sign a 1 year deal even if some team offers 4 years minimum (or not) deal? Can he say no?
Yes. This is the nail in the coffin for Dmo's market value. And the NBA has tried to punish teams circumventing...though their punishments are not usually too strict. And do you knwo if this has happened before? Void a trade and go after the player in FA after 4 months?
No worries, it will be a carrot and a stick approach to recruiting. Sign with us, or face the Morey jinx.
Did Morey just sneakily remove all of D-Mo's negotiating leverage? Could this have been intentional? That would be some dark ****.
He will have his qo. If the Rockets not renounce it. Other than that I'm sure he will have 2+1 T.O deals on the table but for few $. I mean..Al Jef is going to get a contract and he is fat, old, the game has passed him by and he always misses games.
for someone who is going through a major back injury, not so sure that would be a good approach either
We get to keep the guy we were supposed to keep and didn't get rid of the trash we were supposed to get rid of
