My favorite was his him going ape ish on the radio and in his column in 2004 about how Kent needed to be traded to make room for Burke..... and then suggesting the Astros were cheap for not overpaying to bring him back in 2005.
How does that help him? I'd have been much happier to hear he was lean and working on making his swing more level through the zone.
He just needs to button that shirt all the way up like his teammates. Once he hits his 25th HR, he can unbutton it again. (And it seems like it would have been better if he reported at 225 pounds of muscle).
If anything, it shows that he's working hard this offseason. I'd assume he's also been working on his swing as well. I mean, Singleton knows raw power is not his weakness. That said, I'm never opposed to any Astro gaining 15 lbs of muscle.
this is the only ST pic thus far, not that telling: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jon Singleton (<a href="https://twitter.com/iLLJAY_SiNG">@iLLJAY_SiNG</a>) in <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/Astros?src=hash">#Astros</a> camp <a href="https://t.co/f8B9jYtWbt">pic.twitter.com/f8B9jYtWbt</a></p>— Mark Berman (@MarkBermanFox26) <a href="https://twitter.com/MarkBermanFox26/status/701069822306738176">February 20, 2016</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Jon Singleton said he's gained about 15 to 17 pounds, up to 150. 6'2, 250 lbs? There might be more muscle, but I suspect it's hidden under newly found fat. Folks tend to eat a lot of carbs when they're blazing out of their minds in the evenings.
Yeah, adding power never seemed like a need to for Singleton. Him bulking up seems fairly pointless. But, the results will speak for themselves. He knows how important this Spring is.
sorry, but i cant not post this pic: <blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned data-instgrm-version="6" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:658px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);"><div style="padding:8px;"> <div style=" background:#F8F8F8; line-height:0; margin-top:40px; padding:62.2222222222% 0; text-align:center; width:100%;"> <div style=" background:url(data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAACwAAAAsCAMAAAApWqozAAAAGFBMVEUiIiI9PT0eHh4gIB4hIBkcHBwcHBwcHBydr+JQAAAACHRSTlMABA4YHyQsM5jtaMwAAADfSURBVDjL7ZVBEgMhCAQBAf//42xcNbpAqakcM0ftUmFAAIBE81IqBJdS3lS6zs3bIpB9WED3YYXFPmHRfT8sgyrCP1x8uEUxLMzNWElFOYCV6mHWWwMzdPEKHlhLw7NWJqkHc4uIZphavDzA2JPzUDsBZziNae2S6owH8xPmX8G7zzgKEOPUoYHvGz1TBCxMkd3kwNVbU0gKHkx+iZILf77IofhrY1nYFnB/lQPb79drWOyJVa/DAvg9B/rLB4cC+Nqgdz/TvBbBnr6GBReqn/nRmDgaQEej7WhonozjF+Y2I/fZou/qAAAAAElFTkSuQmCC); display:block; height:44px; margin:0 auto -44px; position:relative; top:-22px; width:44px;"></div></div> <p style=" margin:8px 0 0 0; padding:0 4px;"> <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BCEH3-XHyEf/" style=" color:#000; font-family:Arial,sans-serif; font-size:14px; font-style:normal; font-weight:normal; line-height:17px; text-decoration:none; word-wrap:break-word;" target="_blank">When your "big brother" has your back. I am very skeptical that Gattis can spend very much time behind the plate. I think the Astros traded for him hoping he could, but his lower body is a mess.
We will see, it would be a huge boost to the Astros offense if Evan can get 40 games at C, and it would help Evan's career a lot........ but I am honestly very skeptical. It hurt for him to bend down for grounders at first last year.
Singleton doesn't strike me like a guy who takes instruction well. He seems like he just does his own thing. There's no way the FO told him to put on 15-20lbs of muscle.
http://www.houstonchronicle.com/sports/astros/article/A-new-opportunity-this-spring-for-Jon-Singleton-6847201.php Singleton's offseason training is intriguing. Maybe he puts it together this year.
