Good podcast Clutch and Bima. Agree with everything and I'm am a huge draft junkie as well and loved getting a solid pick in this upcoming draft. I didn't want to see DMO go but its about the future and no one truly knows how his back issues will play out for the rest of his career.

It is really sad but you are 100% correct on this. Why would Durant leave OKC to go to another one a few miles south with a different name and red Jerseys. Heck any free agent star. Isn't Les on life support right about now? Someone just pull the plug and get us a new one.

    Great conversation. Thank you both.

    Very interesting repped.
Yes the most alarming is this perfomance in a contract year after letting go of all that guaranteed money. And it's not just the fit..it's lack of effort as well, being hesitant.
For a vet this is inexcusable and baffling. It's not like he has clashed with teammates or a coach.

Definitely RED FLAG of addiction problem. If we hadn't enough already.

Morey has this quote in Watkins' ESPN article, regarding D-Mo...

    -----

    Tough to trade Donatas Motiejunas?

Morey: Very hard...There are scenarios where this summer we couldn’t even have his restricted rights. It was just a deal that made sense for us.

    ----

Anyone know what he means? Under what scenario would we not have had Motiejunas' restricted rights?

This is an odd quote and might go a long way toward me understanding this trade better. If anyone knows what Daryl is referring to.

For example, if we were trying to sign a free agent but needed more space, we could have renounced our rights to DMo in order to help create more space.

Probably this. But that would be a scenario like Durant agrees to sign, if Howard stays, and we have to pay them both max or something.

At that point, who really cares if we lose DMo. I suppose the draft pick would be nice, but that has a salary cap hit, too.

    Thanks.

That scenario is the only one I could think of where what he said would make sense.

Does change my view on the trade a little.

You still mad that they didn't give Von Wafer the MLE as you suggested.

Not necessarily rotten but their good effort is not enough.

They try to please the fans short term while still wanting to make more money.

Nothing wrong with that but even the average Joe is going to unmask their strategy.

It is frustrating. They are all talkers like Tmac in reality.

    Everyone talks championships.
Good moves followed by questionable moves to undo all the good.

    Double morality at the worst.

An uncertain future just became even more uncertain.

Possibility of losing DMo for NOTHING

Why do people care about that when Howard is in the same boat?

Possible because we had a pretty valuable 1st round pick that could have been used as part of a bigger package in DMo's case.

With Howard, there was really nothing on the table and no concrete offers or assets.

I don't see a mid first round pick capable of adding that much value, it sure hasn't done it under Morey.

I actually agree with that provided Morey keeps the pick and drafts since he is a mediocre to poor 1st round drafter.

However, it still has plenty of value (to other teams) and as an asset to the Rockets if Morey can manage to flip it into something bigger.

A mid 1st round pick was traded to OKC as part of the James Harden package. A mid 1st round pick of Jeremy Lamb was also included.

    Fair enough - good point.

But there are also cases where these things work out...Nene and Pau being rescinded for instance.

Nothing is gonna "Harsh my buzz" man!

And let's not forget we amnestied Scola because we were worried about his knees holding up - how many years and games ago was that?

If all goes well for the Rockets this free agency they'd probably need to trade or renounce their 1st pick for the cap room...

They don't have a first pick.

No, they would have the cap room for that pick. They would renounce Howard, TJ and DMo.
