So one should base their opinion based on who said what? Noone is 100% wrong and noone is 100% right all the time. The world is not black and white, and if a blind opposition to whatever those guys say, is your thinking compass then you are as blind sheep as those who hear and believe everything SAS says.

Morey is not a god, and he makes mistakes and instead of hearing the words, based on WHO said them, hear them for what they are independent of the source. And judge for yourself.

Pick is top 8 protected this year. We'll get the pick this year, as high a 9th. We have the ability to draft better than D-Mo, who couldn't beat Capella out of his spot in the rotation this season. I think that you are overrating D-Mo a bit.

So, other than you thinking that D-Mo was the shiznit and that we didn't get fair value back for him, am I missing something?

He's just doing his middle school kid troll job, you certainly shouldn't take it seriously. I don't, and I can't imagine many do.

Our best PF on the roster? You mean the one that can't stay healthy?

Honestly, this offseason would be iffy for us when it comes to DMo. Is the potential there? Yes, we all like what we see, but his reason spate of injuries is somewhat alarming, and it is hindering his progress...from taking that step to the next level. Would you commit a large sum to that this offseason? Esp. with a lot of stars to chase?

HOU management and Morey decided that the answer to that was "no". Reasonable minds may differ on whether that is the right decision or not, but I think it is a reasonable one (and one I personally agree with). So then how do you move an injured, unknown PF with potential more than "now-results"...when his rookie contract ends in a few months? I mean, other teams can just wait to sign DMo this offseason. Not like we're going to go ham trying to keep him.

So getting a DET pick is pretty good. That's a solid asset. They aren't even top 8 in the EC right now. They're making a push now, sure, but probably won't go up too high. So a late teens first round pick. Heck, we got DMo with a pick like that! We got Parsons, Clint and Harrell on later (2nd round) picks. It has value.

Sad we had to add Thornton as a sweetener, but they need that push to seal the deal and we probably don't need him for ours. This assumes Morey and Co. have looked at the numbers and, while Thornton's offense is amazing, maybe his defense negates a lot of that. Or someone else we have brings the same net benefit, this is the part I am not as sure of and the part I was saddest about.

Les saves some money too and we have more flexibility.

I don't think we are the biggest losers. I have a feeling the 1st round pick picked up will be flipped at draft night along with some of our young assets. They can grade us then.

Of course not, but when your emotional reaction to something is the same as those four knuckleheads, then yes, you should re-evaluate your position. That doesn't mean you are wrong, it just means you should double check.

    It's not middle school stuff.
It's a rhetoric mechanism called "appealing to the authority" that has been used for millenia. Listen to the politicians they still use it today everywhere.

This guy say it so because he is in an unrelated field a genius, his words are beyond repproach.
This guy who you don't like say it, so it must be wrong.

No need for independent thinking.

The pick is top 8 protected, but that doesn't really matter since it's the pick of a playoff team.

As to drafting better than DMo, there's almost no chance that happens. Skilled 7 footers who are gifted in the post and can hit the 3 are SUPER rare, and you won't find one that is ready to play any time soon in the 20's which is where the pick will likely be. I think it goes without saying that you are greatly underrating DMo, which is fine.

The point here is that the Rockets traded away their best PF AND arguably their best bench scorer AND a 2nd round pick for a late first round pick. The team is worse today than it was before the trade deadline and the reason for that is solely because Les didn't want to pay the luxury and the garbage on the team was untradeable.

Maybe you are fine with a team that allegedly has playoff asperations making themselves worse at the trade deadline due to an owner being cheap, I'm not.

You are over analyzing a joke on a message board.

You are emotional because of the trade, which I wasn't in favor of by the way, but you should avoid lashing out.

two of the knuckleheads are rockets fans, so why is it so wrong to have the same emotional response?

Besides for a lot of people their response after this time has passed , is based on thinking not emotion.

I personally was called a troll by Bobby and DD and didn't think that DMO was a god as they did, and I am very critical of this trade and think it's a mistake.
And couldn't give 2 craps , if my opinion is shared by SAS or Barkley or whoever.
Make your opinion on your own and don't look around to see if a troll or a genius share it.

The team has no more flexibility now than it did before the deadline. Both Thornton and DMo were going to be free agents at the end of the season.

I guess you can consider having an extra late first round pick to go with the Rockets getting to keep their own pick when they miss the playoffs having extra flexibility, but that's literally it.

That's what I told her, you are just a joke on a message board, no reason to think more deeply about it.

    1. DET isn't even a playoff team as you write this. Will they probably make playoffs? Yes. But might they not? Very possible. I mean, Rockets on paper this year were championship contenders, and look how that turned out...

    2. Tall guys that can shoot 3's are actually becoming less rare in the modern NBA. That being said, DMo's health is something you keep ignoring. I don't think you should. But would the pick be as good as DMo the start of next season? Depends on DMo's health and/or what we do with the pick. We could flip it in another trade. Never used that Toronto pick ourselves, but man Harden...

    3. The best PF on the team is not one that doesn't play a single game in the post-season last year (where we got to WCF) and has barely played this year, spending more time on the bench than on the court. Sorry, but contributions have to matter. At some point, potential and what-ifs are just that, "potential" and "what-ifs".

Are we a worse team now? Arguably yes, mainly because of Thornton being shipped, but we keep more flexibility with that asset. That pick is a BETTER ASSET than DMo by himself, given that he was most likely going to walk this offseason anyways (or cost an amount I don't think we'd be willing to pay).

So the real question is whether that flexibility is > or = or < than the benefits Thornton brought to us, i.e., how may it affect our playoff standing at the end of the day. I don't know the answer to that...it's complicated.

I am sorry but I'm not lashing out to you personally. I am reacting to a forum wide effort I see to ridicule those who oppose this trade and are vocal about it.
Look at this post and tell me how it is based on emotion exactly :

So I see most arguments based on logic and thinking and a little emotion but the basis is clear arguments.

No need to make fun of those who give arguments to the conversation.
Even if usually...well they don't make so much sense.

Imo opinion we didn't get better or worse. We gained a first round pick and our still in the playoff race.

Worst case scenario we fall out of the playoffs and get two first founders plus cap space with the chance to reload next year.

Best case scenario Les gets to sell more playoff tickets and we still have a mid first rounder and the same chance to reload next year.

That's...exactly it. A pick that is say #21 is more valuable as a trade asset than...you know, nothing at all. Hence, more flexibility...

If he's so much better, why is he playing less than Capella?

I don't think our record will be worse because we lost D-Mo and Thornton.

    1. Detroit will be a playoff team when Bosh is out for god knows when and Butler is out for at least a month and so is Mirotic. Denying it is just wishful thinking.
2.Becoming less rare means from like 5 guys you have 30. That doesn't mean that it's less of a premium or you can find one easily. Especially one who does NOT suck at at defence like 99% of those guys do.
    3. The best pf of the team what has to do with what happened with previous playoffs? So if a team trades for Milsap now, and he gets injured for the year he may not be the best because he hasn't competed in the playoffs..YET?

    4. a pick in the range of 18-22 is not a better asset than DMO.
Markief Morris the alleged criminal who choked a teammate was traded for a much better than that. Good luck getting a player who is better than Dmo through draft or trade wiht that pick.

Detroit is currently 4.5 games out of the 3 seed and they improved their team at the deadline. They will almost certainly make the playoffs especially given the Bosh news and their fairly easy schedule they have remaining.

Did I say "tall guy that can shoot 3's" or did I say "skilled 7 footers who are gifted in the post and can hit the 3"? One of those is rare, one of those is not so rare. If DMo was just a "tall guy that can shoot 3's" then it wouldn't be such a big deal.

The best PF on the team is the one who is the best PF on the team even if he missed a lot of games this season. Dwight was the best C on the team last season despite missing time.....wouldn't you agree? Should we have traded Dwight last season for a late first round pick simply because he didn't produce while out?

The Rockets are unquestionably a worse team now both due to losing one of their best bench scorers, but also due to losing BY FAR their best PF on the roster.

The Rockets gained no flexibility whatsoever by making this trade and repeating that they did won't make it so. Both Thornton AND DMo were free agents to be. The ONLY benefit that can come from this deal is if the Rockets happen to strike gold with the late first round pick they got in the deal or if making the team worse leads to them keeping their own pick and they happen to strike gold with it or trade both of those picks for something worthwhile. Otherwise this is just a cheapskate move.

LOL, he was recovering from surgery.....why was DMo playing more than Dwight last season? Same reason.
