Love that movie. I had my share of drama with this team this year. Early in the season, early candidate for starting point guard was falling behind on English work. I called him in on it. Made him take his novel on our away games to do his work. He didn't get it done. He got benched for a week. He had a chance to turn in the final project and he didn't, and I cut him from the team. That sent an early message. I didn't lose one player to grades at the grade check. Midway through the preseason, there was some miscommunication between me and another coach, and my players were no notified of a rescheduled practice and kids showed up, but I was not there. The following day, only a handful of players showed up...maybe six. One of the players told me that the others that were not there were going to "teach me a lesson" for not showing up to practice. LOL At the next days practice, the team had a discussion on how this team is going to be run, and I held the door for anyone that wanted out before we got down to business. Nobody walked and those that missed had a "character development" day, while those that attended practice went on with their scheduled practice. We never had an issue again, and now, this group has a banner for the gym. Old school works.
Most definitely. I love that Movie too . . .very inspirational Sounds like they know what's what Athletics is no longer a . . . intermural situation did not understand that in high school I don't think alot of people teach it like that anymore Also . . .I don't like that some coaches it is all about them 8th grade has a 6'0 kid . . .tallest kid on the court but they never teach them how to dribble, pass into the post, defend on the wing I'm like DUDE the kid maybe YAO MING NOW but in 3 years he might be Mugsy Bogues you *HAVE* to teach them all the fundamentals and remind them Rocket River
I think my biggest challenge was teaching them to feed the high post. Once they learned what it would do against a zone defense, a whole new world opened up to them. Hell, even my primary offensive set relied on feeding the high post and sending a backdoor cutter.
TEACHING!! Love it!! Seen too many High School games that looked like pick up games where one team simply OUT TALENTED the other team It is always fun to watch them get shredded by an inferiorly talented TEAM The frustration and anger and yes fear when they look at their coach and he has no answers D*MMIT!! Now I'm talking about the Rockets again!! and them for the last few years GGGGRRRRRRR!!!! Rocket River
