Lol it's funny cause i'm all for tanking and looking at next season but...reading this post i'm not sure anymore, good post dude.
Agree. Dekker needs to spend some time down in the D League, but there's no reason not to give KJ some burn. Brewer's contract is a lost cause...it's going to take an asset to move him. So why not see what KJ brings to the table. Maybe moving Thornton was a way to open up time for KJ, though I realize they have completely different skillsets.
Tanking is for p*****s You have two max players and max salary on the team and you want to tank coming of a WCF appearance? Give me a break All for those mid 1st round picks where there is good chance Morey either drafts a bust or some mediocre guy who will spend 1 year injured, 1 year in the D league and then shipped off after a few games with the main Rockets team I want to watch every Rockets game knowing we are playing to win.
Why tank? It's not like we're 12th in the West gunning for a Top 5 pick or something. Roll with Dwight and Harden, hope they get going at the right time, and try to make some noise in the playoffs and salvage the season. Not saying that's likely, but I'd rather pull for that than pull for the team to get the 14th pick...
Lol, is this the anti jinx thread? Watch us go on a run now and just barely hang on for the 7th seed. Now clutch fans will be cursing whenever Brewer/Jones/Ariza are making shots. Winning shots at the buzzer will get fans raging.
OKC -> SAS -> GSW -> CLE That's a very possible path the Rockets would need to go through to win it all this year. We are 2-7 against those teams. The 2 wins were against OKC in the 4th game of the year, and SAS on Christmas. Since Christmas, we are 0-5 against them. It would take several injuries to key players on almost all 4 of these teams for us to see "daylight". Retreat and live to fight another day.
The former, of course. I know the situation. Maybe getting the Pistons pick has skewed my views. I don't know. Just not a fan of tanking, and I'm not sure you can feasibly do that with Harden/Dwight on the team unless you say you're going to shut one or both of them down. Not saying it's "right". Maybe I should think differently.
No point in tanking now, they should have done it back when McHale was removed. Might as well take that first round exit! Go Rockets!
Why tank? I don't see the upside. James is in his peak and if I'm being honest, his work ethic isn't strong enough to have him carrying our team for 50+ wins late in his career. That means we need to win now - and you do that in the modern era with 2-3 "stars". James can be a #1 guy - but his Robin needs to be a locker room leader too who holds everyone(even james) accountable. That's just something Harden doesn't have but the team needs and certainly Howard is not that person either. A high lotto pick isn't realistically going to be ready for star or 2nd star status(and certainly not a locker room leader as a youngster) for at least 2-3 years when James will already be pushing the big 30. A high lotto pick provides us hope which is a great thing, but it's not going to put this team any closer to a title. As frustrating as it has been, we are much better off crafting a versatile team of guys on good contracts and staying flexible financially to be able to bring in an instant star.
I understand what you're saying. When I say I'd be for tanking, I don't mean let's try to lose. I'd just play Harden/Ariza fewer minutes, our younger guys more minutes, rest Dwight when he needs it, try new schemes, etc. This is my version of tanking. I think it'd help us long term.
Oh, well in that case I totally agree. My mistake. Misunderstood that. That's what I've wanted for a while now. We knew this season was going nowhere 20-30 games in. It's time to start moving in this direction.
I'd rather be in the lottery than have the 8th seed and play golden state but I really want them to get their **** together. This team has talent, I guarantee you neither the Spurs or Thunder want to see a motivated Rockets team in the first round.
We were already struggling and have a tough schedule in front of us. Despite knowing this, Morey traded out 3rd best scorer/Main bench option and D-Mo for no players in return, this should tell you that Les and Morey have given up on this season.
Another reason to tank.......you go into the draft armed with a ton of stuff. 13th pick (if Rockets miss) 16th pick (if Detriot makes it in) Lawson's non-guaranteed 2016-2017 contract Ariza Capela Other guys with upside When Golden State wins the title again, it may open up teams like LAC or Cleveland to trade Griffin or Love.
Les doesn't want to tank. And JBB is fighting for his job and certainly doesn't want to tank. Clearly tanking improves the team with draft picks. Does tanking send the wrong message to potential free agent acquisitions? Or is that overblown? I certainly would like to see the team show more urgency and fight. And I would like to see more of Harrell, Dekker and KJ. And less of Tjones, Brewer and Terry. I'd like to see Capela get back on track as he has been trending down for a time.
