Well I brought actual album sales and you brought a pet website with Geocities graphics using defunct blender magazines and Amazon lists as "critics"

So yes, I guess there isn't more to say.

Album sales doesn't make an album better. So by that logic Adele is the greatest artist of this decade. When you have artist like Fka Twigs, Grimes, Grizzly Bear, Panda Bear, Kendrick Lamar, Arcade Fire, Drake, Jamie xx, Frank Ocean, D'Angelo and many other artist making modern day classics.

This is also a reason why people think the Grammys are a waste of an award show its no better than the VMAs. They award the popular artist.
Much like Taylor swift beating out Kendrick Lamar.

    Not anymore man.... Not anyone....:(

If swift when's a grammy over Kendricks "to pimp a butterfly" the Grammys is just the VMAs.

I was sort of being sarcastic since people want to throw out album sales as a measure of how good someone is.

I guess you missed it. I was using albums sales cross-referenced with musical quality assessment to weed out all of the un-influential pop crap. And it showed that Kanye was very unique in that regard (pretty much on as island of his own in the past 30 years).

I didn't realize you were trying to use straight album sales to assess musical quality. If I would have known that I would have stopped responding a couple pages back. :)

1989 was a better album. And I say that as an owner of Kendrick's most recent album.

TPAB is social commentary told through poetry and beautiful music throughout. It deals with the struggle, triumph and hypocrisy of African Americans in today's world. 1989 is a bunch of random pop songs thrown together with more than a few that are basic. I don't even think 1989 is bad. But TPAB is groundbreaking music that'll be more important to its genre than 1989 ever will be to pop.

    Kendrick got robbed

    Eclectic I like it!

Hey I agree with most everything you just said. Album sales don't make an album great but it is an indicator of popularity and influence.

I have Kayne at the top of Rap Hip Hop and Pop. He's not in the god tier though, for me that's a special class. I mean the Beatles #1 was released in 2000 (40 or so years after they quit) and has sold over 31 million copies since. Do you think Kanye 30 plus years into the future could put out a greatest hits album and sell that much? Maybe but to say he's in the god tier now is just weird to me. Saying he is better then Michael Jackson is the same thing to me and gets my gears grinding.

Fair enough. And I misspoke early...you did take time to bring some relevant information to the discussion by listing the album sale info. Sorry, I got a little ornery. Arguing about music is my favorite and least favorite thing in the world. LOL

Autocorrect has no respect for Bowie.

I can say kanye would not make a greatest hits compilation. Only because it would sound all over the place it would take master to make his songs sound cohesive because of his albums each having a distinct sound

Also Charlemagne the god, a new york radio host has said that he's heard from sources that Swift did in fact know about the track. The plan was for everyone to react to the line ilwithin the song and she comes in to clarify that she was ok with the line. But no she just did a 180 on him.

I'm done focusing on that now. I hate pop culture so much but when stuff like this happens it just really makes me so sad to see someone try and expose an easy target (kanye) and then in news comes out she's been lying and no one even cares or minds. To me this is a career ender if it gains traction because then all the other stories of her being an @sshole of a human being start make more sense

Maybe for a few of those, but based on record sales, lyrics, and musical talent, I would say that, empirically, many of them are better than Kanye. Personally, I'll take Illmatic, God's Son, Street Disciple, and Stillmatic over any of his CDs.

And it's not all about record sales. Hanson sold more records than the Velvet Underground.

Plus, he needs professional help. Seriously.

Kanye brings a lot of **** on himself. Maybe if he starts learning a bit of humility (I didn't say complete, but at least a modicum- many of the great artists of all time, including Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Dylan were at least reasonably humble), he'd be better off. There's a reason why he's hated by as many people as those that love him.

I am Warhol. I am the No. 1 most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh.

'I am God's vessel. But my greatest pain in life is that I will never be able to see myself perform live.'

'Sometimes people write novels and they just be so wordy and so self-absorbed. I am not a fan of books. I would never want a book's autograph. I am a proud non-reader of books.'

'I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice.'

'I feel like I’m too busy writing history to read it.'

    Here's my quote: "LOLKW."

You'd be in the minority for three of those Nas albums. Kanye has at least 5 albums better and more acclaimed than whatever Nas' 2nd best album is.

I don't even think you can use record sales for probably 90% of what you listed actually. Joshfast posted the link earlier where Kanye was like 26th all time in album sales...and most of the ones in front of him weren't on your list.

    Agree on both points.

I'm actually not sure how anyone over the age of 25 can even listen to rap (or even hip-hop to an extent) with a straight face. Aside from older stuff. And even that, the majority of it would only be for nostalgia purposes. Hardly any rap has held up well over time.
