Why do the reports say Dwight came out happy out of that meeting with Harden / Morey / JB ? & rumors start after that.

That is why I am all for Mosgov. His free throw shooting is elite Big Man wise.

True, he may be a Rocket past Thursday, but he will be gone this summer. The Rockets are trying to trade Dwight Howard. That tells they are ready to move on.

Flipping one expiring player for another is just bad business. It does nothing for the Rockets, and it's not like Dwight is a cancer in the locker room. Taking on bad contracts for the sake of picks also can have a negative impact on Houston's ability to target FAs this summer.

If Les and Morey are done with this combo, that's fine, it doesn't mean the Rockets should take on garbage or lesser picks accordingly. There is also nothing against Houston holding the cards for D12 in FA, then trading him away later that season. People are scared to bite on Dwight because of cost. If the Rockets strong arm him into a moderate contract for 4/5 years and then flip him they could get a lot more than bad contracts and picks.

First off, the current Houston/OKC comparisons are a bit flawed since one team has Durant and the other doesn't. The comparison would be Houston with Durant to OKC with Durant, so what Houston's record is now isn't a deal-breaker in and of itself.

Not saying it will happen, but here's the scenario I keep coming back to:

Let's say the Thunder are swept in the second round by the Spurs and appear like they're clearly not in the class of GSW/SAS. They've pretty much gone all-in, already. Kanter is on a massive contract. Ibaka isn't far behind him. They lured Billy Donovan from Florida with a very rich deal. The Thunder are good, but if they're uncompetitive with GSW/SAS this year, I really don't know how they take that next step. Their chips are already in. They'd be a known quantity that simply isn't good enough.

With Houston, the only real long-term commitment is Harden. Morey will be able to give Durant the choice to pick whoever he wants as his No. 3. He'll also give Durant the choice to pick whoever he wants as coach. Whereas OKC is largely a finished product, HOU would give Durant the option of an existing star (Harden) and extensive franchise control, which is a pretty big selling point these days.

Of course, the same could be said of Washington and quite a few other non-OKC situations, so the odds of Morey successfully luring Durant are low. I'm with you there. I just think the odds of him leaving OKC for a team with a "worse" current record are better than a lot of folks seem to believe.

According to reliable sources (including that Kings Insider RIP)the kings.

What will likely happen is what happened with Wes Matthews, Bev and Brewer.
He will use the Kings to raise hsi contract and then sign where he wanted from the beggining. With SVG.

Btw I too agree taht it will a hiddeous contract. But the Pistons (with kings as well ) are at tremendous inside pressure to win now.

Well, sounds like we are pretty much in the same position on this with me being a little more pessimistic I guess.

The NBA jades me like no other sport.

Depends on what you consider "moving on". I think they are "moving on" from the fact that a team build around just Harden & Howard isn't winning a title anytime soon.

However that doesn't mean the Rockets with Harden & Howard NEXT YEAR can't win... (here's the kicker)... it just means the Rockets have to have Howard back on a MUCH lower deal to allow them to make other moves. If Dwight is your 3rd or 4th option than why wouldn't you want him back?

As others have noted, Dwight the player isn't the problem in Houston... his contract is however. Get a new contract that makes sense and there is no reason to not keep him. The contract though is probably why they think he's likely to walk for more than they want to pay, and why they are contemplating trading him, but there still is no guarantee that the offers they are getting are more valuable than simply having the cap space that comes when Dwight walks in free agency.

I think what people are overlooking is his cap space figure might have more value than what they are getting offered back in return. So its worth it just to gamble on him taking a low deal with Houston, and having the alternative option of getting gifted with his cap space figure this Summer.

either way though, there really isn't much telling on what he may or may not do. but to me I don't think they are realistically getting rid of him. what is happening right now is just general testing waters on what can we get for Dwight. Nonetheless talks are going to obviously come up within the next few days but we'll find out soon enough after Thursday

btw want to say this. Teams that are under immense win now pressure most often make dire mistakes in trade deadlines. They sell off young with potential for win now vets.

The teams that are now in immense pressure to win now are the Kings, the Pistons , Orlando, Washington and Charlotte.

If you want to take it as a hottake I dont' give a damn.
I am just expecting one or more of those teams to make serious mistakes in two days.

    This is the truth.

Howard doing a smaller version of what Duncan did and playing for $15 million or even $17 million would be great and would make him a valuable part of the team with flexibility to add a star. Howard at $25+million means you are rolling with Harden/Howard as your two best players and I don't think you win a title with that.
