Laura Ingraham: ‘Millions and millions’ of Republicans think the Iraq war was a ‘disaster’

Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham warned Republican presidential candidates not to defend President George W. Bush’s Iraq war because “millions and millions” of GOP voters view it as a “disaster” for the country.

During Saturday’s Republican Presidential Debate on CBS, Donald Trump had accused Jeb Bush’s brother of lying about weapons of mass destruction.

“Obviously, the war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake, all right?” Trump said. “They lied. They said there were weapons of mass destruction. There were none, and they knew there were none.”

The billionaire’s comments about the war came just days before George W. Bush was set to join his young brother on the campaign trail in South Carolina.

Ingraham told the hosts of Fox News that Trump was engaging in a risky but calculated strategy.

“He’s thinking that there are millions and millions of Republican voters who have had the luxury of time to look back on whether the war in Iraq was really a good idea,” she explained. “And all the money we spent, and all the men and women we lost. And I think a lot of Republicans — the establishment doesn’t like to hear this — millions and millions of Americans probably agree with Trump.”

“This was a disaster for the United States,” she added. “We’ve lost influence in the Middle East, we’ve toppled dictators who probably had their finger on the dice of what was going to be a flood of tumult. And he’s betting that people aren’t going to just reject the Republican Party of today, they’re going to reject the Republican Party of the Bushs’.”

“If they think they are going to re-litigate the Iraq war throughout the United States in this primary process and that’s going to end well for them, I don’t think it is.”

Maybe the GOP will wake up from their collective amnesia or at least take their heads out of their asses and own up to their disasters for a change.

Well, apparently they don't learn from their mistakes with their chickenhawing of Iran.

The article was about Laura Ingraham. Does she get the David Brooks treatment now? #shrinkingtent #nodissent

I'm not too surprised, I don't know anyone - and this includes some very conservative Fox News types and ex-military - who in hindsight doesn't think Iraq was a terrible mistake.

There's an entire wing of the the Republican voting bloc that is strictly Republican because of racial concerns. Not NECESSARILY racist, but their election issues are all attributable to race. Immigration and welfare. Every single Republican "meme" I get on Facebook or hear in conversation about welfare recipients stealing our taxes is about black people. They may intellectually know that white people are on welfare and that maybe there are immigrants from other countries here illegally, but the ones that bother them are black people on welfare stealing the tax dollars and Mexicans here illegally destroying the school systems and killing and raping and selling drugs.

That branch of the Republican party loves Trump and loves Cruz. It isn't going to matter what Trump says about the Iraq war as long he keeps promising to kick out Mexicans. That is the threat to the country. Mexicans and blacks destroying the country. Oh and crazy Muslims and it just so happens that Trump is against them too. Most of this bloc of voters has moved to the "I don't care what happens to people over there" mindset and don't give a rats butt about George Bush's idealism about freedom and democracy, they just want them dead. So when Cruz talks about carpet bombing and making the sand glow, they love it. When Trump talks about kicking their butt, they love it. And by extension, they agree with the notion that horrible dictators are good as long as they help us and kill crazy Muslims.

There are several here on Clutchfans who don't think the Iraq war was a mistake. There are many who still think there are WMD.

I can only think of bobby. He believes he is some sort of expert on Middle Eastern affairs because he was an enlisted pawn who served in Iraq.

The timing of Trump's statement was terrible. It will hurt him very much in South Carolina and down the line. The truth of the matter is not relevant.

The vast majority of right-wingers are not ready (yet) to change the Iraq war narrative. The time is approaching but definitely not this election cycle.

Obama sabotaged the negotiation of a Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with Iraq so that he could say during the 2012 presidential campaign that "All" American troops have been removed with Iraq and that the Iraq war is "over".

The Navy Seals killed Osama bin Laden and then Obama and his sycophantic supporters claimed credit for that action as if Obama himself had done killed bin Laden. Obama declared that Al Qaeda and the terrorist threat from that region was all but extinct and no longer a threat. That turned out to be wildly wrong, as of course Islamic State is just Al Qaeda in Iraq 2.0.

Since that war it "ended" according to Barack Obama, the conflict there now is clearly a new conflict of his own making.

The disaster is what is happening there now, with Islamic State. Obama has enabled and effectively nurtured the rise of this group with his feckless policies in the Middle East. They are growing rapidly in various places around the world.

Meanwhile, he also failed in his handling of the Syrian civil war - remember his red line in the sand - and now "refugees" from that region, primarily young fighting age men, are flooding into Europe by the millions, destabilizing the EU. Not to be outdone, Obama is insisting we import large numbers of these unvetted fighting age young men from these areas into the US. And this just after a recent attack by radical Islamic terrorists on American soil in San Bernadino, California.

For those that thought or still think the Iraq war was a "disaster," Barack Obama has shown us what a real "disaster" in this region looks like.

Actually the EXACT OPPOSITE happened. Obama actually requested to Nuri al-Maliki an extension to leave behind some trainers but was denied.

Obama's entire rhetoric of 'ending the war' was nothing more than political speak and as a liberal, i can acknowledge that. He had nothing to do with ending the Iraq war, and in fact requested an extension to have some 3,000 trainers left behind.

Yes. These guys seem to forget that it was the GW Bush admin. that negotiated and signed the agreement to withdraw US troops.

Like in the socialism thread, we need to define "conservative", because invading Iraq was not a conservative action. I was for it in the 1990's because I thought it was a progressive action toward more just world (down with all dictators, democracy for everyone!)

Poisoning the planet is not conservative.
Dictating medical choices for women is not conservative
Spending into deficit for excessive military might is not conservative
Restricting voting rights is not conservative
Socializing corporate debt is not conservative
Deciding winners and losers in intoxicants is not conservative
Bloating elections with private money is not conservative

It like living inside an oxymoron.

That was just Christopher Hitchen's view and one reason why he split from many liberals over the war. I always felt that was even more dangerous and shortsighted than a war for resources and strategic advantages.

Well, yeah, you can find a handful of people here on the bbs that believe the illuminati and the freemasons run the world, and about damn near anything else.
