Yes. That's exactly what I'm saying. It wasn't based on issues or stances, his campaign was one word slogans "Hope" and "Change". They avoided anything of substance and ran on making history with the charismatic young black man. I think it's okay that we admit that.

Except it's not true. Obama's plans were far more detailed than McCain's on just about every major policy issue. And it wasn't just white papers - he discussed them in more detail in his stump speeches than most candidates in recent memory outside of Hillary, who is an extreme policy wonk. You're just remembering the caricature of a campaign that you want to remember because his poetry was so good as well. But anyone actually paying attention saw something very different.
It's absolutely true. I'm not saying that there weren't issues mentioned at any point, I'm saying that's not what his voters based their decision on. Maybe it'll just take longer before people feel like they can admit it.

And the lower courts are blue. Nine of the 13 U.S. Courts of Appeals have a majority of Democratic appointees. That means liberal rulings conservatives were hoping the Supreme Court would overturn remain law. So if Scalia had cast the deciding vote on a case before he died, but the court rehears it and divides 4 to 4, that would leave the lower court decision in place. That’s what would happen with a proposal to apportion Congress in an entirely new way that would heavily favor Republican districts, which was argued recently. OMG, really, you're getting worse and worse. You can say that about nearly every Presidential election - a whole ****load of people vote for whom they like better- in terms of appearance (see Kennedy vs. Nixon), personality ("there you go again..."), manners (let's face it, Gore was a bit of a stiff compared to Bush), relatability (Carter vs. Ford), etc. If you're deluding yourself into thinking that this hasn't been the case and was different in 2008 and 2012, OK.

I own two episodes of The West Wing. The Two Cathedrals is one of my favorite episodes of tv ever. Not quite at that level, but The Supremes for some reason always stood out to me. Going to go give it a watch.
Roberts replaced Chief Justice William Rehnquist, hence being Chief Justice John Roberts. Alito replacing O'Conner was the balance shift. Obama should appoint a minority that is also a woman, like he did with Kagan and Sotomayor. I suggest Janice Rogers Brown.
