Lucroy isn't in their long term plans, and adding Nottingham is their hope for filling that long term I'm sure But when people way this makes moving him immanent, I think they are reading it wrong I would be leery of giving up a lot for Lucroy until I see how he responds after the concussion, seen too many come back and not be the same

Agreed. This doesn't really change anything with regards to Lucroy. There's pretty much zero chance they could overlap.
I've never thought adding LuCroy was a realistic option in the offseason. The Brewers are asking for the moon, and the LuCroy from 2012-2014 is worthy of asking for the moon. But I'm sure teams aren't willing to pay a whole lot for a guy who's coming off a very mediocre season. Trading LuCroy likely would have been a sell low situation. If he plays really well this year, they can get the huge package they want from somebody.
when I mentioned it, I meant that it makes a trade easier because we don't have to provide a non-existent catcher of the future (if that was one of their interests)...not necessarily MORE imminent. That being said, easing one of their concerns on a deal they're already planning to execute could make it happen sooner than it would have otherwise.
If the Brew crew do decide to keep Lucroy and Nottingham has a good year at AA, I could see a September call up. If Lucroy plays out his 2 years, they could both be in the starting lineup in '17.

The Astros apparently viewed Nottingham as a first baseman long term... and Oakland did as well after watching him. I still really like Nottingham, he has deceptive power and a quick bat inside, but having two organizations question his glove after watching him makes you wonder. I suppose someone could argue that Strearns is very familiar with Notingham and still wanted him.
I am shocked Drellich still has a job, I have to think he won't be covering the Astros long. Ripping the Astros constantly can play when the club is the worst in baseball..... But not when the team looks competitive long term. Crane and Luhnow both can be arrogant and dismissive. However at some point Drellich has to get over it. Also, tired of hearing about the Singleton extension, it was a small amount of money in the big picture.
I don't think hack is a strong enough word for Drellich at this point. I get it, the Astros hurt your feeling and your butt hurt about it. At a certain point you have to show a modicum of professionalism when choosing what articles to write. If the Astros win the WS this year, his article the next day would be something negative. Probably another article like this one about how they will all be gone soon.
Drellich makes some fair points. It's clear after last season that the Astros are very close to contending for a championship. To "lose" Kazmir and "replace him" with a $7M fixer-upper project in Doug Fister is certainly not a move that says the team is doing everything possible to win a championship. We also have a problem at catcher, and could have considered spending on a corner infielder. Crane hasn't lost his cheap reputation yet.
Which catcher and corner IF should Crane have thrown his money at? This organization gets it, they understand how the payroll will develop over the next 5-8 years and don't want to end up losing a home grown stud for a minimal upgrade somewhere Not to mention we don't know how this season will evolve and where our biggest needs will actually be. We can certainly make in season moves to help where the true need is Drelich is a tool
Had Valbuena been a FA, he would have been the best available 3B. And why do people consider Kazmir a loss, he had 2 great starts and then was completely non competitive the rest of the way.

You're apparently limiting the scope to free agency. But whatever. Bottom line is we are extremely close to competing for a title, and aside from the nice pickup of Ken Giles we didn't do much else to better the team so far this offseason, and we still have a relatively low payroll.
Todd Frazier was the only upgrade available on the trade market. Who knows what it would have cost us. The team didn't have a lot of holes.
