Dwight doesn't have negative value to make teams dump contracts. They will give back expirings. (along with obviously the real value like picks or players who are worth their contract and Morrey wants).

Example from Boston Lee or Amir or Jerebko. All expiring.
    From Charlotte : Al Jef
From Portland : Kaman (along with Crabbe, and I think, not sure, Henderson).
    From Chicago : Noah

He's also a big part of the reason for their malaise this year. Which doesn't mean his input isn't warranted, but it should certainly be taken into consideration.

Which is what I was saying, isn't it?

Not sure how much 'real value' they will be offered, though. Teams are going to very leary of the financial commitment Dwight is expected to want, meaning the concern isn't just will he sign with them, but will they even want him to. That narrows down the potential pool quite a bit, meaning those teams that are interested are likely to not want to commit much to a trade, when they can grab him as a FA. So, what would they be willing to offer? Players they have that they either don't want, or will likely not keep past this year either. Some of those, like Love, do have 'real value', but that's not why they would be offering them. They would be looking at it much the same way Houston is looking at Dwight---if they can't or don't want to resign those players anyway, then why not put them in a trade? As opposed to: We want Dwight so much, we'll give you these players we are very high on in trade.

Dallas could be an exception to that, mainly because they don't really have any players in that category to trade (which is a huge change for them!). I could see them including Pachulia, which gives the Rockets back a player they would need, to replace Dwight. Not sure who else they would include to make up the difference, though, and Zaza's current contract is pretty low, so a lot of difference to make up.

Which is a big problem in constructing these trades. You can't trade your top players to get another top player...that doesn't move your team forward. But without doing so, it's hard to match up the salaries. Hence including your problem children, players you don't see in your future anyway.

I would love to have Kevin Martin. He is a good 3 point shooter

At this point either Morey has a great deal they are perfecting or no one wants Dwight, and if that is the case then Morey has to get rid of him for any interested team instead of walking for nothing.

Why does it feel like Dwight will resign with Houston just to save his image in the offseason? To put to rest that he is not a quitter...

Oh yeah definitely don't expect back a top player.

But you can get back assets rather than nothing. Assets you can use later to further improve your roster.

As for the teams, yes commiting to pay 43 million more is not the best but not every team things wisely. Some are desperate and want to win now even if they are not contender for various reasons.
Need to make the playoffs because of owner impatient, or GM fearing for his job, or enticing FAs to resign with them , or to even attract them.

    For example :
Charlotte. They are barely in the playoffs. They want to resign Batum and Marvin. Making the playoffs and acquiring one star, which they don't have, will pretty much assure they make it and give them more chance to resign their own FAs.

Washington. This was supposed to be the year that they took another step forward and had to present to Durant a team who just needs him to beome a contender. But instead of it, they have few hopes to make the playoffs as is and their frontline is very very old and has no rim protection. (that's one of their main issues right now). Grunfeld is not a good GM.

Indiana . Not that desperate but they have only 2 years to make the team more competitive to get PG to resign. - Can't attract top FAs and have a huge hole at their frontcourt.

Chicago. Scumbag GM Gar is in serious danger of getting fired their frontcourt is old , injured or about to leave in FA -Pau has all but made it clear to them already. Defence has fallen off a cliff. Can't fire the coach as scapegoat because of what happened last year in smear campaigning Thibs.

    ....

And Boston is not as cool as it seems. I said it before but they need to consolidate some of their assets this week or they will pretty much lose most of their value.

Collison, Koufos, and Belli are all intriguing pieces.

Eh. Collision is alright but we already have Bev, we don't really need another PG who isn't quite good enough to start on a contender.

Would rather have cap flexibility this summer to throw max's at Durant/Horforf/Conley then to have 14 mill tied up over Belli or Koufus who are bench players on the Kings.

Why? Dwight is better than Horford, Horford just plays harder. And we already have Korver on the roster, Marcus Thornton

    you are right.
We also have new Faried on the roster Harrell, Capela is like Gobert, Ariza is better than Draymond Green and Bev is like Conley.
    Yup.

They have a different skillset though, Horford can step out and hit shots which is big for Harden's game since it means he won't always be clogging the paint and bringing a shotblocker into the paint.

Not that we should be playing Horford consistently at center but he'll be much better at playing PF then anyone Harden has ever played with here.

Yahoo Sports is reporting that the rumor of the Chicago Bulls going after Howard has come back around just as it did earlier this season. The Bulls are in the luxury tax and would get even more of it by taking on additional salary, but it may be worth it.

The proposed trade would be as such:
Rockets get Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson, and 2016 first-round draft pick
    Bulls get Dwight Howard

The Charlotte Hornets have won seven of 10, including three in a row, and have the eighth playoff spot going into the All-Star break. Charlotte could also put together a pretty good package in order to make a trade happen for Dwight Howard.

Rockets get Marvin Williams, Al Jefferson, and 2016 first-round draft pick (protected)
    Hornets get Dwight Howard

As reported by the IB Times a couple of weeks ago, the Atlanta Hawks are interested in trading away Jeff Teague, and this could work in a possible deal with the Houston Rockets. One rumor going around is that the Rockets could ask the Hawks for both Teague and Al Horford, and that it’s possible as the Hawks have been asking “borderline ridiculous” prices for the two.

The Dream Shake states that there is the potential for the Orlando Magic to jump into the fray since there has been interest in moving Victor Oladipo. Houston has been discussing possible trade destinations with Howard and his agent, and it is unlikely that he would want to head back to Orlando.

Al Horford can shoot from as far as the three point line and is 78% from the free throw line.

Plus he doesn't have a target on his back with the refs. Which avoids those second-tech situations with apes like Adams and Nene cheap-shotting dumbass Dwight out of the game.

Dwight: defense and rebounds, and if we keep him, greeeeeaaaat.

I don't know if Dwight's "better" than Horford. I'll take Horford in a second if we can get him.
If the Chicago deal is real, I'd take it and never look back.

Horford has a troubling injury history, maybe more so than Dwight. I'd welcome him in a trade, but I'd have reservations.

As for the Chicago package, I'm not sure if Noah's bird rights, Gibson, and a 1st is enough. If it's the best we can do, it's the best we can do I suppose. Taj is awesome, but he's also 30. But if we're going to go full '93-'94 in how we build around Harden, he's the kind of guy you want I guess.

that source is bogus and is based on a hypothetical no source article by Bobby Marks (who is not an info insider - a cap insider) about what he thinks is the trade market for Dwight.

Not both, IMO. Even with Noah's brilliance at the elbows, the spacing isn't there. And he's done for the season, an expiring contract, and possibly washed up (related note: I love Thibs. I don't want him here).
