I'm pretty sure he meant you chase both but only sign one. With cap holds and Harden and Love on the books I believe you could only fit in one additional max contract.

Its gonna have to be 3-Team trade IMO to get best deal for Rockets. CLE, ATL,CLIPS, CHI, SAC, MIA, Players that I would take: CLE- Love ATL-Teague, Schroeder, Milsap, Horford, Korver CLIPS-Blake CHI-Gasol, Taj, Noah PHX-Bledsoe, Morris SAC-Boogie MIA-Dragic
I would only try to trade Dwight/Ariza/Brewer/Jones/Lawson for expiring contracts and picks. And at that, I'd lean heavily towards serviceable expiring contracts. Unless somehow a great deal comes up from a team like Atlanta if they seriously consider parting ways with Horford. That all depends on if the Rockets value Teague or not. And even then, I'd be hesitant because Horford is a free agent this summer as it is. You guys are scared of letting Dwight walk for free. But if it creates even more cap room this summer, why not? Him and Lawson off the books plus the cap increase will give us a lot of cap room to play with. This upcoming free agent class is very good. I'd try to maximize the amount of money I could spend this offseason. Durant is a huge long shot. I'm sure they'll focus on him but it's obviously very unlikely they'll get him. But if the Rockets make some shrewd moves they can retool in a hurry and surround Harden with the proper talent of shooters and defenders that this team needs. Conley/Batum/Horford/Barnes Hell I'd even think about guys like Derozan (if we could get one of him or Harden to man the 3 spot and not completely suck) and Parsons. If you can get 1-2 of those Then round out the team with some "super" role players like Anderson/Ezeli. That seems like the best chance at retooling on the fly that we have.

^Try typing a coherent post or spelling Morey's name correctly at some point. Houston would have ~$40 million in cap space this summer without Dwight/Lawson/Jones/D-Mo. Then add to that whatever the cap increase ends up being. We'll have a lot of money to throw at people. Cyberx has already said we're going to go all in on Barnes. Barnes+Horford/Conley this summer is easily doable. The allure of playing with a top 5 player in Harden is still strong. Not sure why anyone would discount that. Then add role players like one or two of D-Mo/Anderson/Ezeli. I'll take my chances with Harden/Barnes/Horford(or Conley) with above average role players Over Harden/Love/Barnes and much less depth.
Trade a role player and a declining pseudo-star who can opt out for Kevin Love, a true offensive super star and a player who is actually compatible to Harden? Obviously yes
