I lived at Portico at West 8 for nearly 2 years before buying my house. My wife works in SL and it was central to us. Living in the Galleria area, midtown, Heights.. You gotta deal with brutal traffic. I was 10 mins from the Galleria.. 5 mins to City Centre. 15 mins to midtown if I drove around 75 mph.

Maybe in the hood or way out in the Inland Empire.

I never understood where they built Royal Oaks and why pro athletes like living there. I can see the appeal of a ranch or something out in Pearland or Rosenberg but not sure about the appeal of Westchase. I don't think the short distance to Chinatown is a factor.

It's gated with good security and a nice golf course (retired athletes love golf). It's really not that far from good retail and restaurants, Memorial City is about 10-15 minutes and Galleria area is 30 min (all depending on traffic).

tons of layoffs going on.... whole lot of "restructuring" and "exploring strategic alternatives" for companies that barely two years ago were expanding like crazy and pumping billions into new wells.

    crazy times.

I wouldn't even pay $285K to live there. That's not a bad area but it's not great.

I lived for a year right off Kirkwood near Westheimer. Location was good for getting to places, but no way I would stay there long term and definitely not with a family.

So did anyone in Houston take up Mattress Mack on his $85/barrel bet?

Whoever did is probably posting their furniture on craigslist since they are moving out of town soon.

I was going to ask if anyone has experience with these 3-4 story houses.

I always thought I wanted to buy a large 1 story but these 3-4 stories look nice inside but look goofy from the outside. Pus they are super close to each other. NO yard or place for guest to park.

You think it's bad in Houston. Now imagine an ENTIRE country that depends on high oil prices.

Yep, I paid $1.35 /gal a few days ago, I can only imagine what it might be in a week or so.

    $26 a barrel....wow.
