I just wanted to re-iterate this. Trump. Cruz. Carson. Rubio. Christie. You. Can. Not. Make. This. Stuff. Up. And even if you did, nobody would buy it!

I have long assumed that Carson's run was heading for an early exit. That he will eventually quit is a given. But this bit of intel is asking me to jump to too many conclusions. I get the innuendo, but I don't know who these guys are, why they're quitting, why they like doing stuff together, or why they like Cruz. So, I'm not going to generalize and take this as evidence that Cruz will pick up the Carson block.

I do think it's likely that he will pick up the Carson block. If Carson was getting the anti-establishment people who thought Trump wasn't Christian enough, Cruz seems like the next best option on those two dimensions (assuming you're a Christian that leans more toward God's justice than toward God's mercy).

Actually, as I think about it, if you're looking for a good mainstream Protestant in this election, you'll have some trouble. On paper, Cruz qualifies the best (Baptist), but he doesn't sound very genuine. If you don't believe him, you've got: Trump (Presbyterian, but nominal at best), Rubio (Catholic turned Mormon, turned Protestant, turned back to Catholic), Carson (fringy 7th Day Adventist), and Bush (converted Catholic). But then we had some mainline Protestants up earlier, and they got no traction. So I guess that's not a thing anymore.

I bet Cruz likes the movie Footloose. Which is what makes this thread perplexing.

Who was confused? We all know this is why the Cruz campaign lied about Carson dropping out in Iowa. He's been anxious to acquire the Carson crazies.

Maybe I'm giving him too much credit, yes. But ask your average Iowa or South Carolina conservative voter what they think of New York values. I've spent a good bit of time in each state and know the answer.

But yeah, maybe Cruz was just dog whistling with that New York values line. Maybe he doesn't have much of a strategy.

'Tuchus' is a yiddish word, just like the word 'schtick' that you used earlier. I suspect he was less interested in taking exception with your comment than he was in showing how clever he is by using a yiddish slur in his comment.

    Just saying.

Something about Cruz to me is a little off.

Manipulated voters in Iowa, has a reputation for not being a well liked guy.

Things were looking ok with Rubio gaining momentum and then the Robot happened.

    Damn.

Nu, Mojoman, take it easy. It's one thing to speak tachlis, but it's something else entirely to go full-on lashon ha-ra, achi.

Rush Limbaugh said yesterday that "Ted Cruz is the closest we’ve gotten to Ronald Reagan in our lifetimes." Other than Reagan himself, obviously.

It was not an endorsement by Rush, who has been in turns complimentary and critical about all the top Republican candidates. But who would Republican candidates rather be compared to than Ronald Reagan? And which of these candidates has been, other than Ted Cruz?

The text below is from the transcript of Rush Limbaugh's radio program yesterday:

Which is perhaps the best example of how much Rush is full of BS. On two major fronts, since (1) RR was no where near the strict "conservative" that Rush wants folks to believe and (2) I can't see any real similarity between Cruz and RR. RR's main strength was his likability... he had an ability to connect with a broad range of people on both sides. Cruz? Everyone hates him.

As I've said before Ronald Reagan probably couldn't make it out of the current Republican Primaries.
