Morey was given NOTHING/rotting carcasses of Yao and TMac...plus the ultimatum to win without tanking!! Not only has the Rockets found ways to win...they were able to parlay assets that were broken into 2 viable superstars...He put the pieces around his star players in hopes for success... I completely believe he did his job... The lack of progress stems from a lack of evolution among the players on this team. They asked for continuity in the offseason, and Morey delivered. But that continuity brought stagnancy...and in turn the Rockets look like crap this season. But everyone believes that they are UNDER achieving...And if you think a team is underachieving, then the sole blame falls on the star players and the role players...
Or the coaching staff? But surely Morey is to blame for bringing in Lawson. A non-defensive guard who can't shoot. Not a wonderful 'fit' here I suppose.... Having said that, before the season there was wild eyed optimism from most about the acquisition, so maybe it wasn't such a bad one?
I'll trust Morey if he gets rid of Dwight, doesn't bring him back next year, and gets us a real coach
would have been nice if morey came right out and said golden state's halfcourt offense is entirely predicated on moving screens. but he probably knows he'll need to look for a job in a few months and doesn't want to burn any bridges
Morey's biggest worry right now is that the Rockets might not make the playoffs. Utah and Portland are playing well lately and are moving to take the 7th and 8th seed. It is going to be a dog fight the rest of the way. Morey has to be concerned what Les might do if the Rockets don't make the playoffs.
He was brought in because of what we could get for him and our cap situation. I agree that a point guard who can do what Lawson does and can shoot would be ideal but those guys aren't easily acquirable in our situation.
For a guy that openly admitted that being (where the rockets are now), he's doing a pretty ****ty job with our future. There is no place for mediocrity, if you're going to lose...lose right.
So says you, he has had 7 years, this is his team, he built the team the coaches, everything if it fails he is accountable. If they don't make the playoffs, he should be fired. DD
And so says you. It's still dumb as you are willing to start completely from scratch essentially with harden and a new coaching staff and GM. I don't prefer cutting off my nose to spite my face. Honestly, what GM options are out there? Do you even know?
Do you? Morey has had enough time, he has turned the roster over and over. If we don't make the playoffs, it is on him. DD
Given the amount Chances Morey has had he still has Thursday to look forward to. I want to see what he can get done. Morey time is running out though.
This......also give DD a break. There is nothing wrong with holding Morey accountable for the mess we are in. He built it and certainly gets the credit when things are going well, but has continuously wasted off season after off season chasing the big star and missing out on valuable others while we usually get left at the alter. This year we will spend most of the summer ignoring most everyone but Durant only to find him re-sign with OKC or go elsewhere. Same story different year. Also, he needs to hire a good coach and let him coach. Morey forces his 3 point system on weak coaches and does not provide them the shooters to succeed. He also loves the undersized bigs and it feels like we are always forced to play small ball which does not work in the NBA long term. Morey is a fun gimmicky GM, but minus a Josh Smith 19 point comeback against the Clippers who celebrated too early, Morey's teams have not been successful.
Who cares if we make the playoffs, one and done at the hands of the Spurs or Warriors. You see the loser mentality in this team, it's not going to magically change. When a person or team shows you who they are believe them. We are not good and getting a 7th or 8th seed isn't a good thing. Also, this team will not win a title anytime soon. Blow it up, get some hungry players for James, D12, etc...
I disagree unless Morey comes to Les claiming that status quo (personnel, coaching, and style of play) is the way to go. Morey seems to me smart enough to realize that what they are doing & who they are doing it with just isn't working. The one thing that I will say is that you are consistently hearing that the Rockets are going after shooters at the trade deadline, and looking to go hard after Durant in the offseason. I do think that Morey is still on the same track so yeah maybe he does need to go if that's the case and he's delusional, but I think he's smarter than that... hopefully. If you are looking at needing to overhaul a supporting cast, and having a GM who has a good track record with choosing coaches & having coaching stability, who are looking at as options at GM that would be more qualified than Morey- -RC Buford isn't coming to the Rockets -Presti isn't coming -Ainge isn't coming -etc. etc. Morey, if he's realistic with Les about the changes that are needed, is the best qualified GM that I know of to handle & drive the changes that are needed. If you think there is someone out there better, please list who you recommend.
