You quoted a post about Musgrove and Martes and responded with a post about Tucker, Valbuena, etc.

Come on man. Step up your game. Do this sh** right.

I find it hard to believe that the Astros and Castro haven't settled. Castro wants 5.25 million and the Astros are offering 5 million.

You can see the same thing with AJ Pollock and a couple others on the list. Maybe being so close is actually hurting their odds of settlement because neither is risking much by going to arbitration.

Because they feel Castro is unlikely to get what he is requesting.... they can settle at $5 million.

I don't think there's a possibility of them trying to get a long-term deal with him, so they can play hardball as much as they want right now.

Inquired = can we get you really cheap.

I suspect the Diamondbacks end up signing him.

I think both sides are mindful of those negotiations that follow. Each time a team settles, it sets a precedent that future players can use in hearings...and vice versa.

The flipside to this is that the Astros, in theory, will be offering Castro a long term contract next year when he becomes a free agent. Not sure why they'd try to squeeze him for $250k when he'll be asking for a deal of more than $25M next year. In other words, might as well try to keep him happy on the contract front this year before really negotiating next year (where other teams will be negotiating with him too). If anything, I take this as a sign that the team doesn't view him as a long term option here.

Castro is a free agent after this season.

His case hasn't prevented the Astros from settling with other players (or with him in the past).... I just don't see much urgency on the team's part to settle with Castro, given the lack of a huge disparity and the limited chance they will attempt to lock him into a long-term deal.

We need another lefty besides Sipp. If not Tyler, someone.

    Clippard is a rightie.

Tyler Clippard nearing deal with Diamondbacks

    Adam Rubin
    ESPN Staff Writer

Former New York Mets reliever Tyler Clippard is nearing a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks, ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports.

Clippard was acquired by the Mets from the Oakland Athletics on July 27 for minor league right-hander Casey Meisner.

Clippard started strongly with the Mets after being acquired, but experienced a cranky back and slowed down late in the regular season, perhaps because of heavy use. He had a 3.06 ERA in 32 relief appearances with the Mets. He then allowed five runs in 6 2/3 innings during the postseason.

In any case, is there anyone besides me that feels we need more than one lefty in the bullpen?

In definite agreement with this. I have a feeling it will be one of our minor leaguers, either Chapman or Freeman.

What are the chances Wandy makes a start in Minute Maid this year? It should be another fun season at Fresno and Corpus. Seeing how these rosters fill out is already getting exciting.

They have some internal options they feel are close to being ready (Michael Freeman) and they can always trade for a lefty specialist if needed at the deadline.

I personally am more concerned about the bats.
