It was in the newspaper too.... and the fella that works at the bar said Coach David McWilliams claims he throws a great deep ball.
That tough old sumbitch from up on the hill over yonder says he hasn't seen an arm like that since Bobby Layne, so you might be right.
We'll see. Hard to imagine trotting out a true freshman versus a Top 10 Notre Dame team to start the season. Shane being a EE is pretty big though. Also hearing good things about Locksley and Merrick so far this offseason. But as crazy as it sounds, wouldn't be surprised if Swoopes gets the nod if someone doesn't run away with it.
Why would Swoopes "get the nod" - he lost his job to Heard and did not win it back, he only played in the end because Heard was injured. if it's status quo - it probably goes back to Heard who wasn' nearly as bad as he's made out to be.
- How's your dad doing? - He's doing great. This arm ready to throw about 2,000 yards next fall? Oh, I don't know. We'll see. We're dependin' on you boys. Let me tell you what. You're looking good! Thirteen starters coming back, 22 lettermen. - Lookin' tough. - Yeah.
Just my opinion but assuming no one runs away with the starting job, I could see Strong going with the Senior and most experience to minimize mistakes against a very good ND team. Same reason why Swoopes got the start last season and guys like Gray and Haines got the majority of the snaps despite not being the most talented players at their position. I could very well be wrong but just wouldn't be that surprised. Obviously Id be very disappointed if this happened because I am not a Swoopes fan at all.
I would hope Strong wouldn't go with Swoopes for that reason; he was eviscerated by Notre Dame. If the argument was that Heard "wasn't ready," he certainly should be ready now. The argument that Swoopes' very low ceiling is somehow better than Heard's higher floor is way to pessimistic. Then again, anything can happen this spring and summer.
To be fair, our entire team got eviscerated by ND but ya I agree. I'm hoping that Kai Locksley can be the guy. Merrick is my dark horse though, really underrated prospect IMO.
There is 0 expectation that any one of these players will be the starter over the other. There is a new coordinator with fresh eyes that will look at all 5 of these quarterback equally. If Swoops plays the best in this offense and gives the team the best chance to win then he will start. I doubt that will happen but the point is that it's a blank slate. Gilbert didn't recruit any of these guys so he isn't partial to any of them. I do hope one of the three new guys will get the nod.
i wish garret gilbert was still on the team. he was amazing <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/JKPvj5PRODk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Anyone heard from oakdogg? I'm sure he's not doing too well after Strong killed it in recruiting like that. Get well soon bro. Imagine what Charlie could do after a winning season.
http://247sports.com/Article/Scatte...orns-2016-football-signees-breakdown-43500886 I saw Shane Buechele in multiple settings, but the event I won't forget is how he flourished at Texas’ Under The Lights camp prior to his junior year. On the same field with Zach Gentry and Kai Locksley, Buechele looked like the best quarterback by far. So much so that I was told Buechele's performance convinced Shawn Watson, and in turn Charlie Strong, that he was the right guy in 2016. A source in the program said Buechele (6-1, 190) went out and “took their hearts” with how the Arlington Lamar product embraced the head-to-head competition with other quarterbacks. That mentality should serve him well this spring as he’ll be thrust into Texas’ quarterback battle. ***
Hearing good things about Buechele and Locksley at team workouts so far. Swoopes always gets mentioned as well but concerned that we rarely hear Heard's name during these workouts and practices.
