Both Rivals and Scout have Texas at #6 after updating. Impressive. http://www.foxsports.com/college-fo...don-jones-chris-daniels-charlie-strong-020316

Today, Strong saved his job after this average season UT will put up. He was known for recruiting well in Louisville. Really impressive. He's a good coach, but he has to clean up the good ol boy attitude that Mack left. Great day for UT. Expecting much improvement in 2017-2018 season. Have to be excited about it.
Well not much of a choice when we only brought in 2 DT commits during a 3 year period. Just glad to see us shore up the trenches really.
The top ten, that is great news for UT. Just a few days ago, a ESPN guy said that UT was ranked at no.6 in the big 12, I thought that we are done for a good football program.
This is all based on 247 Sports. Team Rankings Texas finishes 10th in the country in recruiting and 1st in the big 12 by a wide margin. 5 Star Recruits: #0 4 Star Recruits: #12 3 Star Recruits: #11 2016 Class in order of rating (Top-Down) Spring 2016 Enrollees: QB: http://247sports.com/player/shane-buechele-51368 WR: http://247sports.com/player/collin-johnson-43002 ILB: http://247sports.com/player/demarco-boyd-53443 OL: http://247sports.com/player/zach-shackelford-35184 Fall 2016 Enrollees: S: http://247sports.com/player/brandon-jones-36759 OLB: http://247sports.com/player/jeffrey-mcculloch-47648 OLB: http://247sports.com/player/erick-fowler-47655 DT: http://247sports.com/player/jordan-elliott-65210 OT: http://247sports.com/player/jean-delance-76869 DT: http://247sports.com/player/chris-daniels-31899 DE: http://247sports.com/player/andrew-fitzgerald-69294 RB: http://247sports.com/player/kyle-porter-37371 CB: http://247sports.com/player/eric-cuffee-47657 OL: http://247sports.com/player/denzel-okafor-75367 DT: http://247sports.com/player/dandre-christmas-giles-80063 WR: http://247sports.com/player/reggie-hemphill-mapps-23451 ATH: http://247sports.com/player/liljordan-humphrey-76568 S: http://247sports.com/player/chris-brown-49466 DT: http://247sports.com/player/marcel-southall-81596 DE: http://247sports.com/player/malcolm-roach-77608 DT: http://247sports.com/player/gerald-wilbon-58436 WR: http://247sports.com/player/davion-curtis-79953 OG:: http://247sports.com/player/tope-imade-61726 TE: http://247sports.com/player/peyton-aucoin-80197 Defense: This was obviously a great pickup. There were some solid pickups in the LB core that can help complement Jefferson who is practically a veteran on the team with his 3 semesters and a freshman of the year award. They were light in depth in the secondary but Safety Brandon Jones is the top rated safety in the country and the prize pickup. They picked up 5 defensive tackles which was a major need. I'm guessing a couple are going to be red shirted but I would have thought Charlie told everyone they can play right away. It will be interesting to see if they can move some of them to DE if they play more of a pass rush from the linebackers. There are a couple that are above 300 lbs so they might make good interior lineman or fit in well at a nose tackle in the proper formation. Hopefully, the linebacker and line pickups compensate for the thin DB class. The faster you get to the QB, the less time your DBs have to stay in coverage. Having Jones as that "Oh ****" safety is going to be a godsend. I don't know if he is more of a coverage safety or a charge and hit guy. Offense: There isn't a ton to talk about. It would have been nice to get more wide receivers (or at least higher rated ones). It's a shame the Cleveland kid is heading to the SEC. He is one of the top 5 state of texas players that UT needs to be able to lock up in the future. QB is the position everyone cares about right now. Buechele has a lot of potential and is already enrolled. Merrick and Locksley come off their red shirts so it's a 5 player battle for the starting spot with a new coordinator. Clearly a surprisingly great class. There are some great bigger storylines here as well. Brandon Jones was such a strong A&M lead in the last year that the GigEm website did a documentary on his career and recruitment. That is a huge steal in the state of texas recruiting battle for UT. It's still disappointing that 3 out of the top 5 (including the top) rated recruit in Texas are going out of state. Two of them are going to the SEC (Thanks A&M . On the plus side, Texas stole one of the top rated outside linebackers from his longtime LSU commitment. He joins fellow highly rated OLB Jeffrey McCulloch as two much needed pass rush weapons. They also recruiting 4 players from Louisiana which I thought was a surprise. At least 1 of them was a target by LSU. It's funny to see them seemingly abandon the Florida market after the Florida 5 turned into the Florida 1. Good day to be a longhorn fan. I just hope Strong can bring it all together this year and get some wins.
Great post. I'm pretty sure we ended with 24 and 13 4 star commits. The offensive line is the highest ranked and the best part of the offensive side of the class, which I think is most important. If we can have a good line, we won't have to worry as much about the skill players. I do like the combination of size and speed in the wide receiver position. I think it will all work out fine.
Yeah surprised the OL commits weren't mentioned. Really like the players we got on both sides of the trenches.
