New York already pays 13 per to Lopez, Porzingis will likely end up being a C by the middle of next year, and Dwight is a bad fit for the triangle. Lopez is as well.

Are you saying tampering happens all the time, or that GMs consent to allowing their players to test the market before July 1st?

Exactly! I actually think it was not too far fetched to think Leslie would want to re-sign Dwight at all cost since you won't get a replacement of his caliber. I really hope Al Horford is considered to pair up with or as a plan B.

Good. The only scenario I'd want Dwight back is if he made no more than 20 mil a season. He can't play a full season anymore and he's way too hot-headed with all the technicals. I'm starting to wonder if he's getting kicked out of games and suspended lately because he wants out.

The Gms tamper and talk with agents all the time. They do it themselves.
It's one thing to have proof and another to do it secretly. Secretly like that everyone does.
And the result of that also helps the GMs of the team to gauge the market and the value of their free agents to be. Now since Morrey has found out that the market for Dwight most likely won't be a max of 30 per it gives him leverage.
Pay less and give the 5th year that he can get only from us. Because more than 20 per Dwight could get in the open market..but not the extra year.

Seems like a lot of people are ready to say bye to Dwight...

I get it he may not be worth the max but you do realize that without him we have ZERO legitimate rebounders/anchors on defense?

What makes yall think we'd be better without him?

Maybe Kobe's retirement has something to do with that, as well as some rumors that KD and possibly RW going to the Lakers (since negated by the recent Woj bomb).

That's why if we re-sign, we don't give him a CRAZY huge max that he can't meet expectations to. If he's going to be hurt, get suspended, get tossed he definitely isn't worth upwards of 25+ mil.

But you could do a lot worse than having Dwight at around 20 mil even after age 30. He brings it every year in the playoffs with us.

    Question 1: How Much
    Question 2: How Long

    I think he a 20 mil a year guy . . . but I would try hard to get it to 15
4 yr deal - 2 year with options on the last 2 years

That's like saying, "we aren't winning with James....Let's try something else."

Dwight isn't the MAIN problem here. Why weaken the team if we can bring him back for less than the max?

    We have NO other Centers.

Worst case scenario, re-sign him for less than max and if it doesn't work out, find some sucker team to take him on in the twilights of his career.

I don't want to lose Dwight for nothing.

I don't want him at 30 mil either. But I'd rather him at 20 mil than not having him at all.
