Hakeem fought people. Hakeem played in a different era . Hakeem can't be compared to Dwight . Hakeem played 20 years ago , the game had different rules and different unwritten rules . I would guess that if Hakeem was constantly beat on and then not allowed to be physical on the other end , he might have a problem with that . Dwight is not Hakeem . Hakeem is the greatest rocket of all time and one of the best centers of all time who dominated an era marked by gret big men . Sure , Dwight can take this punishment lying down . Sure Dwight can allow other players to make plays that have a higher chance on injuring him . Put yourself in dwights shoes . You are on the wrong side of 30 . You have had major back surgery . You have ****ed up your knees . Why does the league still treat you like you are some 25 year old indestructible athletic machine who is just bigger and stronger than everyone else ? At some point after Dwight stopped being an MVP candidate maybe the league should have reevaluated his athletic ability and stop treating him like prime Dwight . I don't think Dwight is the biggest or strongest anymore . Deandre , Drummond , and others have taken that spot from him . I don't see players jumping on their backs and hacking them hard . NBA players have the ability to commit a hard foul that prevents you from making the shot . In dwights case they are choosing to commit a foul no where near going for the ball . His body is breaking down and the nightly punishment he receives is accelerating it . It would be one thing if the fouls on him were clean , but they aren't . Dwight has played the nice guy his entire career . Sure maybe an idiot nice guy who can get unfocus and make a stupid foul in response , but still a nice guy . If Dwight fouled other players as hard as he gets hit , someone would get injured . If instead of swatting at an arm , Dwight jumped on someone's back ... Someone would get hurt . Dwight can try to hold his head high , keep his composure , allow beatings , but they won't stop . Even if Dwight masters his emotions and never retaliates never says a word to the refs , opposing players will hit him with impunity because there are no repercussions. Players do it for two reasons , 1 because Dwight night react and get techs etc , and 2 because why not ? Dwight isn't protected and if he responds with a hard Foul it's a flagrant . If Dwight can't respond and the refs don't call it anything but a common foul , then where is the incentive to stop doing the exact same thing ? It's madness to believe that if Dwight just shut up it would stop . Because he has done a good job of keeping his emotions in check for the most part . The only way for it to stop Dwight himself starts fouling the **** out of people with he intent to injure , maybe this forces the leagues hand into taking a real look at what's going on . Dwights teammates up the ante and start playing dirty against the other team with the threat of stop hurting Dwight or we hurt you . No one fears this team , this is part of the problem , our big man in the middle can't do **** to enforce and protect himself or the paint . I agree with those who said we just gotta start playing super physical . If they wanna suspend us all go ahead , but teams will not wanna play us because we are gonna make them hurt .

All part of the leagues narrative. When the Dream played everyone could still beat the **** out of each other and the smaller players took notice. Malone could put someone in the hospital and the league didn't look twice. Those days are gone, and by design. The league wants it to be a fast paced shooters league. The last thing they want to see is a Hakeem/Robinson match up from the early 90s, lots of great D and hook shots. Many of the leagues rules have changed over the last 15-20 years to reflect that. Name the last team that went to the finals w/ a dominate 2 way center? Howard is the only one I can name with conviction in my voice. 09 Lakers Bynum, maybe but was he dominate? 06 Spurs Duncan, he really was more a PF at that point 05 Heat past prime Shaq good, but not really dominate any more That's it for the last 10 years. It's not a product the NBA wants and the ref's call it to fit that model. That's why most teams don't put so much of their resources into the center position. Just find a guy who can defend and rebound. Find a stretch 4 and stay out of the paint. Look at the last 5 years of finals teams, none had a dominate center, all had a good shooting 4. This is what the league wants, and they get what they want in the end.

100% agree. this is what i've wishign would happen with the rockets since dwight got here. everyone's getting away with so many blatant and non-blatant cheap shots on dwight and harden. responding to that by "ignoring it" is just stupid. its worth a few suspensions to get the league to stop hacking the crap out of you. coaches need to be ejected too to send a message

We need Charles Oakley on a 10 day contract. The team is going to have to go old school and protect Dwight. Harrel or somebody is gone have to go in and take a couple hard fouls on star players and then we won't need the refs to do anything.
I have a lot of respect for Dwight. If it was me getting abused night in and night out, I would have lost it a long time ago. The league doesn't respect him and as you can see a lot of players doesn't either. They all think he's weak as well as a big joke. Man when you have Kevin Durant talking smack I would have been punched him in the grill.
