He is saying right there in the quotes that he is for legalization.
"Legalization" isn't the same thing as citizenship and no one is accusing Cruz of back tracking on citizenship. You seem to be conflating the two.

    This is hard to believe:

Cruz: "You know, we've seen too many Republicans that live in the echo chamber of the mainstream media bubble, that live in the world of political correctness."

What? So that's the bubble Romney and his supporters were in during the 2012 campaign season? Oh, okay. Strange that they really thought they were ahead then.

The echo chamber they need to worry about is not the "mainstream media." Lawd have mercy.

Ted Cruz, an epic slimeball with no integrity. He's right out of some dystopian novel.

Iowa's Secretary of State Rips Ted Cruz Over Campain Mailer

Washington (CNN)Iowa's secretary of state on Saturday blasted Ted Cruz's campaign over a controversial mailer that aims to drive voters to the polls for Monday's caucuses by claiming they have committed "violations."

"Today I was shown a piece of literature from the Cruz for President campaign that misrepresents the role of my office, and worse, misrepresents Iowa election law," Paul Pate, a Republican, said in a statement Saturday.

The mailer gave the recipient, along with their neighbors, poor grades based on their individual voting history. On one side, the mailer reads: "ELECTION ALERT: VOTER VIOLATION," "PUBLIC RECORD" and "FURTHER ACTION NEEDED."

The other side of the mailer says "VOTING VIOLATION" in red letters at the top before text that reads:

"You are receiving this election notice because of low expected voter turnout in your area. Your individual voting history as well as your neighbors' are public record. Their scores are published below, and many of them will see your score as well. CAUCUS ON MONDAY TO IMPROVE YOUR SCORE and please encourage your neighbors to caucus as well. A follow-up notice may be issued following Monday's caucuses."

Cruz campaign spokeswoman Alice Stewart confirmed to CNN that the mailer was from the Cruz campaign.

"Accusing citizens of Iowa of a "voting violation" based on Iowa Caucus participation, or lack thereof, is false representation of an official act," Pate said in his statement. "There is no such thing as an election violation related to frequency of voting. Any insinuation or statement to the contrary is wrong and I believe it is not in keeping in the spirit of the Iowa Caucuses."

Pate continued, "Additionally, the Iowa Secretary of State's Office never 'grades' voters. Nor does the Secretary of State maintain records related to Iowa Caucus participation," Pate said. "Also, the Iowa Secretary of State does not 'distribute' voter records. They are available for purchase for political purposes only, under Iowa Code."

Cruz, however, was defiant to reporters when asked about the mailer in Sioux City, Iowa, on Saturday night.

"I will apologize to no one for using every tool we can to encourage Iowa voters to come out and vote," he said.

The mailer comes as Cruz is in a heated battle with GOP front-runner Donald Trump in the critical first-in-the-nation voting state. A Des Moines Register/Bloomberg Politics survey released Saturday night found Trump holding a slight lead in the Hawkeye State, 28% to 23%.

Damn repugs getting desperate. Shouldn't you guys be worried about the "conservative" front runner of your own party? Talk about being a bunch of hypocrites.

Disgusting. If he stoops to this as a candidate, I can't imagine him with any real executive power. *shudder*

Maybe he should drop his leaflets from a huge, roaring zeppelin or two.

It's getting increasingly difficult to the point of impossibility to defend the great state of Texas to my friends elsewhere. Rick Perry and Ted Cruz are the best we've got? Really?

Me too. I am still Texas proud, but boy do I take a lot of grief here in Cali.

How many times can I refer back to our wise and witty political titans of the past? Sigh.

I saw this last night and was genuinely shocked. Cruz himself, as well as his campaign, see nothing wrong with it, despite the Republican Secretary of State slamming Cruz for his unapologetic LIE to the people of Iowa. It's not only shocking, but is part of a pattern of outright lies by Mr. Cruz to the public in Iowa, Texas, and the rest of the country. Ted Cruz is Joe McCarthy reborn. Why the fools that support him can't see this is a mystery to me. There are other candidates in the Republican Party running for president, besides Mr. Trump, that are reasonable conservative choices for the GOP ticket, yet they continue to embrace Cruz. In my humble opinion, that says as much about them as it does Cruz, and what it says is not good. Far from it. Those of you who continue to support Senator Cruz after the continuing revelations about his complete lack of morality and sense of personal responsibility should be ashamed.

I'm trying to remember if all the people disgusted by Cruz were equally disgusted when democrats did this when they were trying to drive out the vote during the walker recall

So I just researched and got my own answer. I posted the story when the democrats were sending actual voting record out to neighbors to get people to vote and deckard, major and mc mark all were fine with that as a get out the vote tactic by the democrats.

I don't like Ted Cruz but this seems like a little bit of hypocritical faux outrage.

Republican or Democrat, any attempt from a candidate to a) represent the government or b) share other peoples voting records is wrong to me.

I think my issue isn't using public records, it's the scare tactics and blatant insinuation of violations that is my issue. I'll give you a personal example.

I bought a brand new car a couple years ago and shortly afterwards I would get stuff in the mail from random companies with my car's model, year, and vin number asking me to sign up for after market maintenance coverage and such. No big deal, it's public record and when I get them I just throw them in the trash. Later on, I started getting mail with Federal Laws written, the entire text of the law, on the outside of the envelope saying it's a crime to tamper with the mail. The letter would be marked urgent, only to be read by the addressee, etc. It looked very serious and the type of mail you don't just discard. So I open it and its one of these after market maintenance coverage companies asking me to sign up for coverage. Now THAT pisses me off. It's blatant and disgusting. Cruz has seemingly taken that stupidity a bit further to insinuate someone could get in trouble for not voting. A big brother scare tactic from the champion of anti big government. It's really just beyond what should be legal. That he would stoop this low in a freaking primary just reeks. How low will he stoop in an actual Presidential election? This is the kind of a-hole that would send out mail to Democrats with the wrong election date and then just say it was a typo.
