props where they're due - I've criticized Adam for his sports knowledge, but with Sean Jones - his skills are much more apparent and it's a solid fit.

He and Lance just didn't seem to work and it made him more of a sidekick.

Sean is outstanding. Excellent intellect, strong vocabulary - and solid takes across sports. Love the way he calls it straight with the Texans and how both guys give Harden hell for being Harden.

You're crazy Matt and Lance is radio gold right now, it's easily the best show on Houston radio.

I like RV a lot, I just never remember to turn on my radio on Saturdays...let alone for a specific time slot. I wish he was on in the evenings or something.

    ----

Side note, I agree with some of the others here Sean Jones has made me a big believer, he's knowledgeable and he doesn't pull punches.
Unlike some others I haven't had a huge issue with Adam Clanton (I love that he's a Rockets fan), I didn't think him and Lance was a great morning show however. His chemistry with Sean Jones has been solid so far.

The Jones/Clanton show has an angle and it's not at all bad. 790 maximized the personnel. Including keeping Charlie on late and ditching the Walken impersonator. Hope they keep things like this long-term.

Lance is garbage. Egg ball centric, very limited sports knowledge, lame impersonations and overall boring.

Who the **** is Sean Jones? Either way he is garbage. His voice is not made for radio.

Adam will always be the lackey.

I only listen to 790 for Charlie Pallilo and Matt Thomas. Definitely the two best far and away.

Slightly off topic, but I got in on the tail end of a segment they were doing this morning about a quote from Jason Terry that Matt thought was undermining coach Bickerstaff. I didn't hear what the actual quote was.

What was he referring to? I can't find it in the GARM.

I will listen to anything over John Lopez but I like Matt Thomas, so 790 in the mornings for me. I can't put my finger on why I dislike john lopez on the radio so much but he just annoys me.

Didn't get to listen this morning, but I'm not surprised honestly. While I like JB, I never thought he was the answer. I don't see why our governing body somehow thought that if McHale wasn't working someone else on his staff would. Other than the recent mini-win streak it looks like the same team to me out there that was underperforming before McHale was fired.

Something along the lines of the Rockets not preparing adequately the morning of the game. You need to be prepared when you play a team like the Spurs. They'll learn from the mistake. Yada, yada...

Couldn't tell if it was a jab at JB, Terry trying to lead, Terry taking a jab at players not taking practice seriously, etc... MT jumped to a conclusion, albeit a plausible one.

Probably because he sucks. That whole station sucks.
If I want to know what someone's Grandfather's takes would be on sports, that's what I'd turn to 610 for.

(Mad radio withstanding) Which I also can't listen to because Meltzer's voice is probably the most annoying one on radio right now.

I have to agree with you. And this is coming from someone who's never been a fan of Clanton. I've officially switched to Mad Radio during lunch, but Adam and Sean weren't bad at all on the few occasions where I've listened in.

Clanton is terrible and I'm glad he got kicked out of the morning slot. Had to even unfollow him on twitter after these series of "hot takes" in freaking January. He's worse than even some of the worst on this board. How he got on radio is beyond me

I like Adam, but I was disappointed in those tweets. I saw those that evening and was surprised, honestly.

While I get where you're coming from, is he really wrong?
You seriously think Harden is going to take us to the finals, much less win one?

I've been saying this since last year, while I'm glad we have a "superstar" at all. His career is starting to look like the Kobe/Tmac comparisons from the early 2000s. As in...at one point you could compare the two, now if you tried to people would laugh at you. Curry is looking like he's going to finish as an all time great, and Harden will be a big time also ran (if he's even considered that, with the way he plays defense).

I want harden to wake back up but the only problem I have with Adam's tweets was his player comparison.

Right now - I see Gilbert Arenas and James Harden as dopplegangers. Down to cheesy hand signal.

The Hibachi may have cooked hot but it ran out of gas quickly. Seems James is stirring and empty pot lately too.

Haven't listened to his new afternoon show but you'll probably be disappointed. His sports takes felt like he was reading from a script and he only started throwing these takes out after getting replaced in the morning. Probably realized he needed to do something to raise his profile

They went to the WCF last year. They were literally 3 wins away from making the NBA Finals, and were beat by a team that I think is historically great.

So yeah...I think a guy who, at age 25, can get a team that close to the Finals while finishing 2nd in MVP voting and CLEARLY being the best player on the team, is certainly capable of getting a franchise to the Finals at some point in his career. Comparing that to Anthony or Gilbert freaking Arenas is insane to me, and completely absent of context.

I'm guessing most of those who disagree would have been all in on trading Dream in 92 and trading Dirk if they were Mavs fans before 2011.

EDIT: If only we had a forum to have these conversations regularly :) ....sorry for hijacking this thread on sports radio.

While I agree he had a great regular season, if you really think we made the WCF because of Harden's play in the playoffs you weren't paying attention. (See: Dwight Howard, and our schedule being lucky enough to keep us from playing the Warriors until the WCF.)

You can't compare what is happening in the league right now to the Mavs in 2011. The warriors were one of the all time great teams last year and they're better this year. You need to take off your fan glasses for a minute.
