Amy Schumer stealing jokes/skits from MADTV, others

Yeah, anybody complaining about that doesn't know her standup act.

My wife digs her show so I have seen plenty of her, and the w**** thing is totally what alot of her jokes are based on. I don't think I have ever seen a show with her on it where she doesnt allude to being a w**** at least once.

why is it some someone is doing good, like amy, and menica before, then they steal jokes. comes off like haters to me. the joke arni told that mencia told was also told by george lopez, but thats not talked about.

what's the point of being a comedian and not writing your own material? I always thought they did.

I don't know how that is even possible (so many commercials). I haven't watched a lot of her stuff, what I have seen I haven't enjoyed.

The guy is dead smh. Rogan was saying how there is so much content out there to keep track of but she isn't even mixing it up, almost flat out word for word.

That's like saying that Bill Burr's material is all about him being an opinionated ******* (which it is) but then referring to him over and over and over as being that 'Douchebag ******* Bill Burr' or 'that dickweed Bill Burr'. And then trying to defend yourself afterwards for keeping on calling him that.

I wonder if this translates over to black comedians and their routines..

 

I have not seen her show, or the movie she was in. Had seen little glimpses of her here and there, and didn't know the 'persona' she has created for her act.

But I listen to a LOT of comedy, and grabbed one of her albums from Amazon a couple weeks ago. After listening to it, I can say this: I don't know if she (knowingly or not) stole jokes, but she IS funny, she IS skilled, and she works an audience well.

I had been on an Anthony Jeselnik binge lately, and it struck me that her method of delivery is similar to his in many ways. Not that she is copying him in that, that's not what I mean. Just that they are similar TYPES of comics.

No idea if she writes her own material or not. Fact is, some people are really good at delivering the comedy to an audience, but not necessarily the best of writers. Kevin Hart is probably the best of that bunch right now. My understanding is that he writes little to none of his own material, and instead hires writers for his act, which really is no different from someone like Madonna giving a concert (she has never written her own songs), or acting in a movie or play where they did not write the script.

I know a lot of people seem to think a comic is not 'legit' if he or she doesn't write all the jokes themselves, but personally I don't care. It's ok to perform something someone else has written. Just do it well and be funny.

If they can be successful doing that, then fine. But clearly it leaves the comic vulnerable, because they can't claim to have written the material themselves.

In the video in the start of the thread, it's clear that the material was lifted almost directly from other comics.Exactly HOW this happened we will probably never know. But with the way things are today, with everyone having the ability to record everything, and the world being so hyper-sensitive to such horrific crimes as telling the same jokes, it's hard to imagine that any comic would KNOWINGLY lift another comic's material.

That doesn't mean she didn't DO it - clearly she did. But I would not automatically assume she knew about it, especially if she is being handed material by a staff of hired writers.

Regardless of that, it should never have happened, and the buck should stop with her, she should accept responsibility for it and promise to do a better job of making sure her material is thoroughly checked before putting it into her act. This 'I didn't do it!' stuff is just not going to fly. Just acknowledge it as a mistake, move on, and don't do it again.
