I looked at Rodman's stat and he was getting 9 and 12 rebounds the 2 seasons he was DPOY.

The next year, he started averaging 18 rebounds a game and never won another DPOY and that was because he just stood in the lane to get in position to get rebound.

He still made ALL NBA D team though, that's how good he was

Yeah you are right. It's pathetic to hear JB said huge part of defense is defensive rebound... How can this man be Rockets defensive coach so many years?

Looks like JB is too scared to call out Harden and is in fact trying to shelter him from criticism. We need someone who isn't afraid to call out specific players, like Tom Thibodeau.

What a Joke! There are others far more deserving of the Allstar selection over our the Chucker named James Harden.

I hate today's NBA. Where stars have the coaching staff and FO by the balls and make the franchise suffer as a result. Way to be a man JB.

Harden is an All-Star, that's not even in question. But for JB to say he's our lock-down guy and that rebounding is a part of his defense (he's ALWAYS out of position and goofing around so of course he gets rebounds)... I don't even know what to say. This is why the Rockets suck this year. Nobody has the guts to stand up to Harden and tell him that he's never going to win a ring if this is the way he approaches the game.

Harden's defense is not bad when he focuses on it. In fact its rather good because of his stature and his uncanny ability to block jumpers when he's closing out at full speed.
Only problem is effort, if he gets slightly beat he gives up, if someone throws a pump fake he gives up after falling for it, on transition defensive scenarios he avoids defense to avoid foul trouble.

I'm with you, it's clear that when he's dialed in he can be a competent or even a good defender. His play with OKC and in FIBA is evidence of that. In short, short bursts at the end of games you see him really dialed in, and he can lock down anyone from 1-4 when he's trying. But he just doesn't give that kind of effort for the whole game, or even half of it. I see that kind of effort a few plays every game. That's not enough from our best player.
