BUMP My Moto G's screen is smashed. Really bad. It's usable but it just looks like s*** and annoys me. I really liked it. It was plenty powerful for my purposes and the lake of bloatware is fantastic. But some months have passed, so I was just wondering... Has there been anything that's like the Moto G (especially in price) that is now better?
In the $200 to $350 price range you will find the Asus Zenphones. They are very nice and worth a look.
There are a couple of choices now depending on price and features you want. $300+ Oneplus two (high end processor, premium build, finger print scanner, 5.5" display, 64gb disk space) Nexus 5x (latest OS, very good processor, finger print scanner, android pay) Moto X Pure (familiar android experience for you, 5.7" qhd display, expandable memory, Upgraded camera arguably the best camera of the bunch, Great front facing Speakers) $200-$300 Oneplus X (very premium design and material, dual sim card) Huawei honor (Premium design and material, expandable memory, finger print scanner, 5.5" display, only 200 bucks) Asus Zenfone 2 (rear volume buttons, 4gb or ram, 5.5" display, good processor, expandable memory) Huawei p8 lite (Good processor, expandable memory, android pay, 5.2" display) Again lots of choices depends and features (high lighted good points, left of plenty)... Personally all the phones listed (and several more) are more than capable devices for your average user... really I would imagine it would come down to design and UI... I have a oneplus 2 and I love it... My wife just got the Huawei P8 lite and she likes it I think its a pretty good value myself but she likes the look. I hope that helps!
What carrier? Rodsolus covered the $200-$300 options well. Here are some even cheaper options. I've been using a Blu One Life X and it's a fantastic budget phone at $150. It's has 5.2" 1080p screen with a mediatek processor, 2gb RAM, 16gb storage, dual sim and microsd card slot. It receives 4g LTE on both AT&T and Tmobile. Battery life is fantastic with a 2900mah battery which is quite enough for a full day's use. The drawbacks are that it's a Blu phone, which are not known for their updates. Camera could be better at night time. Charging is quite slow at about 20% per hour. Quality control is not the best. Some people on Slickdeals received terrible lemons, so don't be afraid to return to Amazon if there are any issues. If you want to go even lower price. The AT&T prepaid ZTE Zmax2 is unbeatable at $80. It has as 5.5" 720p screen, 2gb RAM, and 16gb storage with microsd card. The snapdragon 410 drives it fine since it's only 720p. The camera is not the best but the acceptable. You can either get it unlocked for tmobile use by buying an unlock code on ebay for a few dollars. Here is a review.
Google just slashed the prices of the Nexus 6p and Nexus 5x for the second time this month. 5x looks like a damn good phone, now just $300 for 16gb and $350 for 32gb.
Those ARE good deals but I'm not all that keen on phones by LG. However, if you want to get Android updates without delay, then these Nexus phones are the way to go.
You dont need to buy a code for ATT prepaid devices. Basically when you buy any ATT prepaid device, DO NOT turn it on with the ATT SIM inside. Make sure to immediately take it out. Once you do that, go to ATT's website and ask for an unlock code. As long as you didnt' activate the SIM inside the phone, AT&T will unlock it for free in two days. I just did this process this week with no issues with a GoPhone. It means you can't use the phone for two days (since you dont want to use the ATT SIM Card) but it'll save you the hassle of buying an unlock code.
My friend just hooked me up with a Galaxy s6 Edge plus, man this thing is sick. Now I got an s5 hanging around, what are those selling for these days?
depends which carrier or if it's unlocked Swappa is a good start to see how much they are going for https://swappa.com/search?q=samsung+s5
Yeah, My gf's s5 is so slow and lags. Did a factory reset and everthing. I've been with the Edge since it was released. I'm waiting for the Marshmallow update and rumor is the S7 will be even better.
My G3 finally crapped out and I was also looking at phones. Narrowed it down to: Nexus 6 Moto X Pure LG G4 All are around the same pricepoint with same data size (32gb). I was able to get the G4 for a pretty good price but I thought long and hard about the other two. If the 6P was cheaper I'd get that in a heartbeat.
The G4 has a great camera (easily the best of those three) but has had some serious manufacturing flaws. Sprint had to issue a full recall on their model and the other carriers have had higher than average RMA rates. The V10 is a much much better LG phone (but admittedly significantly more expensive at this point) I dont know what was going with LG's hardware and manufacturing but it stunk on the G4. Although to your benefit, those problems plus the release of the V10 really drove down the price. I also don't like LG's Android skin at all and much prefer a stock or near stock experience. The Moto X Pure and Nexus 6 are both great phones. I have the Nexus 6 which I believe is still the cheapest of the three. But if the price is the same, I'd go with the Moto X over the Nexus 6. The camera on the Nexus 6 is good enough but it has a jumpy focus and the tap to expose is a little too extreme. Those issues were fixed in the Moto X. Also I think the Nexus 6 is a little too big. I think 5.7 inches is the optimal size for a phablet. 6 inches is just slightly too big and I have reasonably large hands. But when I bought my Nexus 6, it was $150 cheaper than the Moto X so it was a no brainer at the time.
Low price is priority #1 to me, so this phone is intriguing. Can I get this at a place like Best Buy or is Amazon the only option? If I need to return it I'd prefer to get it from a physical store. I use AT&T and read that this phone doesn't support Band 5. What does that mean and is it bad?
Band 5 LTE is fairly rare at the moment. They only deploy it in areas that are spectrum constrained. Generally they only used that in rural areas where AT&T doesnt own any 700 mhz licenses. In general, you'll be fine. Worst case you'll be on 3G or HSPA instead of LTE in Band 5 areas. There are some areas where they deployed Band 5 because they owned both 850 mhz licenses but in those areas you'll have other LTE bands to fall back on.
geeimsobored covered the Band 5 issue pretty well. I believe Amazon is the only place that sells it right now. Be careful not to get the old version called the Blu Life One 4G LTE. That's the old version with 720P screen. Make sure to get the one that says Blu Life One X. Amazon's return policy is pretty top knotch, so I wouldn't worry about returning it too much.
