JB's problem is that he was Mchale's protege. It's like a Padawan being trained by Jar Jar Binks. Your just happy if he doesn't poke is eye out with his own lightsaber. We need someone trained by Yoda (Pop).
Like I said JB wasted 4 years learning all the bad habits from one of the worst coaches in the NBA history in McHale. You can't expect much from him at this point. His career has stalled. For him to succeed, he will need a training camp and sufficient time to get whatever ideas and plays he has through to the players. You can't just do it during the season. This team's biggest problem was McHale and his lackadaisical approach to training camp this season. This pre-season, McFail along with all the players came in with an entitled complacent attitude that they would stream roll teams just because they reached the WCF. They just didn't work hard enough and strategize to improve their games. now JB has to deal with the mess. WHile JB is still a poor coach he is definitely an upgrade over McIdiot
If JB can't get them to play D every night (Thibs will or you will sit), then he's not the coach for the future. I don't care how much running Les and/or Morey wants to do. U can run when the other team is filling up the basket.
He is as bad at adjustments. Not his fault as much as les is scared for his pocket. "Morey stop with the nonsense! we pay off mchale first.. and then we'll think about getting a coach..."
a 30-11 blatt was fired, and contender rockets still have jbb the rookie as their hc... the bball world as we know it...
Ah sucks man, I had such high expectations for the Rockets this year. JBB is not the answer, would love if they bring Jeff back or hire Thibs. Not sure if a coach change in the middle of the season would help, but at this point I would do it.
I spy a closet Lakers fan! Scott is the worst coach in the league, hands down. They misuse the talent they have and don't develop the young talent sitting on the bench so Kobe can take a year from the franchise for his 82 game long victory lap. This is an organization that shipped out Shaq the moment they thought that he was past his prime and his play wasn't worth the risk of losing their most talented player at the time. They are rudderless and toothless and the whole organization is a mess from Scott up to the ownership. Kupchak was a savvy GM once upon a time but his moves reek of one of the younger Busses trying to put their fingers on everything. But back to Scott. Dude puts out the worst brand of basketball. They don't pass the ball, they can't shoot, they take horrible shots, they don't play defense, they don't rebound - some of that may be the lack of veteran talent, but you're telling me that Scott gets a pass for the rest? Please. The fact that Scott outlasted Blatt is a sign of how crazy this season has been.
The Cavs fired their head coach and appointed a rookie head coach, that's the exact same thing the Rockets did.
Not that I'm defending what the Cavs did, but at least Lue won 2 titles in the league as a player and was an assistant under Doc Rivers for several years both in Boston and LA before he went to Cleveland. JB never played in the NBA and worked as an assistant for Kevin McHale. If I had to have a rookie coach leading my team, the choice between Lue or JB is a no-brainer.
Byron Scott can at least point to past coaching success. He took the Nets to B2B Finals appearances and led the then-Hornets to Game 7 of the Semifinals in 2008.
The Nets success is because Kidd was an excellent on-court coach and the Hornets because the same applied to Paul. Look at the disaster on the court when Scott is the one guiding the offense. He's an awful coach.
