1 year, $7MM with incentives that could push it to $12MM. Fantastic move and best of all it means no Gallardo.
Oh yeah, just what the doctor ordered. At worst an adequate starter to give us competitive innings, at best a really good starter, possibly our 2nd best.

Astros sign Doug Fister to 1-year, $7 million deal The Astros have agreed to a 1-year deal with free-agent right-hander Doug Fister, according to a major-league source. Fister will be guaranteed $7 million in 2016, and the deal can max out at $12 million if all performance bonuses are reached. Fister has passed his physical with Houston and will be introduced in a press conference Thursday. Fister, 31, drew interest from many clubs as a bounce-back candidate this winter, with the Padres, Tigers and Marlins joining Houston in pursuit. He will round out a strong rotation of Dallas Keuchel, Collin McHugh, Lance McCullers and Scott Feldman in Houston, with Mike Fiers and Brad Peacock serving as depth options. Fister struggled to a 4.19 ERA in 29 appearances (19 starts) with Washington last season, but has been a model of consistency in seven major-league seasons with the Mariners (2009-11), Tigers (2011-13) and Nationals (2014-15). He will hope to bounce back with a strong season for the Astros and test a weak free-agent starting pitching market next winter.
Great move. We keep the draft pick, no player option....very little risk. He either flames out and we're out $7 million, or he's able to recapture who he was just 1 year ago.
Why in the hell would Fiers serve as "depth options" and not Feldman? But that's beside the point here. I'm really surprised he came that cheap. Given some of the preposterous contracts being handed out to mediocre starters, on a one year deal this could be a massive bargain
LOVE it. Did not want Gallardo, especially when giving up a draft pick was involved for a max 5.2 innings per game pitcher.
Luhnow is good about keeping his cards close to his vest. Fister has already passed his physical and the twitter-shere was none the wiser.
