The kind of demographic you don't interact with, maybe?

There's been a desire for female comedic stars since Barrymore, Aniston et al got old and Heigl bit every hand that fed her. Silverman, Handler and Cummings have all gotten series and development deals; Cummings' own sitcom failed even though she's still getting paid from 2 Girls, Handler's kind of an objectively awful person, Silverman's probably too satisfied with her past opportunities and making too much from standup to push much harder.

Schumer's probably learned from all their missteps, looks and sounds more relatable to younger middle-American women and uses feminist commentary as sketch plots: which tricks feminist bloggers into re-tweeting all of her stuff. I'm guessing that last part is where her popularity seems forced.

She's alright, even pretty clever, but I don't really get her shock factor. So many people, especially other celebrities, seem to find it so hilariously disturbing when she talks about her vagina or extreme sex acts. I mean, these kinds of jokes have been part of pop culture for the past half decade.

Is it the fact that a blonde woman is making the jokes that makes it over-the-top or even subversive?

Caught her explanation on the Jim Norton podcast and it was cringeworthy.

She's an average sized (for America) white woman on the bubble of both Gen X and Millennial generations. She represents a huge demographic, probably one of if not the biggest when it comes to TV/movie entertainment consumption.

Someone is definitely stealing ideas here. It's either Amy or one of her writers. Easy to imagine a writer ending up as the "escape goat". Difficult to believe this is simply a matter of parallel thinking as we're talking about eerily similar multi-layered bits being copied. One second Amy will say how she has such a profound respect for a particular comic and their comedy and how she'd never use material that remotely resembles another performer's work. She cites that she's constantly checking to see if her material is indeed original. Then mere moments later she speaks of being all together unfamiliar with the same comic's line of work, or how people have told her certain jokes are too alike but she'll use it anyways as it gets a lot of laughs and she knows it to be her own. It's tricky as Schumer seems to be genuinely good friends with a lot of people in the industry. You could sense that Joe and Hannibal were holding back towards the end. Would love to have heard what they had to say once off the air.

I remember when her persona was to be cluelessly offensive (like Sarah Silverman). Always seemed so contrived, just saying dumb racist **** to attract the idiots that thought it was politically incorrect and edgy (Comedy Cellar Credibility). Now she's on the other coast, riding the women-empowerment train, trying to attract the idiots that bookmark Huffington Post and Jezebel.

Of course she's stolen material. She didnt get into comedy because she had some unique point of view to share with the world. She just had Hollywood dreams. For someone that looks like her*, comedy was the way in and I guess you have to give her credit for figuring it all out and succeeding. Other people, men and women, have tried and failed to do this.

*Not so much a comment on her looks, but what is typically accepted in Hollywood leads.

so many anger issues with women in here.

I don't think she blatantly stole. Most jokes are about life and life has re-occurring themes. You could probably make a mashup of most comedians that touch on similar issues.

Why do people keep saying she's fat? She's just thick and curvy, nothing wrong with that.

I'm tired of the media portraying that all women should be thin and be skinny like a model. It's unattractive and real men love curves.

she's famous for her slutty w**** persona which works because she's not unattractive and slightly attractive for a slutty w****. no one should be surprised at anything this woman will do.

A thread about her stealing jokes has led to people attacking her for being fat and calling her a w****.

What a world we live in.

she is over weight by every weight standard there is. Nothing wrong with being fat, but lets not pretend like that's good or respectable.

As for the issue, I agree with Rogan, that its bound to happen when you spread yourself so thin. A comedian should not hire writers as it won't be their own voice. If a comedian is good, I should be able to read their material and tell who the author is without looking. They should have a unique voice.
