Even the movies are not this crazy.
Today the Malaysian Attorney General just cleared the Prime Minister of bribery charges because ..... drum roll...... the $681 million that he received was deemed as a "donation" from the Saudi royal family and that the PM broke no law. So I guess in Malaysia, it's perfectly legal for the head of state to receive a massive donation from basically a foreign government and this is not a conflict of interest...

Who cares? The Malays and Saudis can do whatever they want with their money. As long as it doesn't mess with #freedom it doesn't really matter.

$681? Why not $685? Or hell, just go up to $700. Make it a nice, round number.

Meanwhile, at the Kremlin, Putin is asking for more shoe boxes to be donated to stuff the millions of dollars he is skimming into. This dude is worse than Saddam Hussein was. Check his barn on his ranch.

Just curious but does anyone know what Malaysia would have that the Saudis want for them to donate that much money to the Prime Minister? Also, the article says the Malaysian courts thought it was okay because he didn't use all of it and returned $620 million? What did he do with the other $61 million? This is pretty nuts.

How is this any different than what PACs or lobbyists do with our politicians?

Compared to that amount, our politicians are "cheap." If this wasn't Hangout, I'd give examples. :)-

perhaps the US has a secret salary cap to level the playing field for graft and corruption? Our politicians are being UNDERPAID.

Most would not believe there's a donation, let alone so much money. Even Saudi officials had no information about it.

On other other hand, the state investment (1MDB) has been accumulating huge debt that have not been explained. WSJ and whistleblowing website Sarawak Report are following this and it's really complicated.
