SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - An active shooter was reported at the Naval Medical Center San Diego on Tuesday, according to a post on the medical center's Facebook page.
San Diego police spokesman Officer Travis Easter said police had received a report of a shooter from officials at the medical center, but that they had not requested any assistance and so no officer had been sent to the scene.

The post on the medical center's Facebook page advised occupants to run, hide or fight. All non-emergency response staff were asked to stay away from the compound. The shooter was reported in building #26, the post said.

A representative for the medical center could not immediately be reached for comment.

Hoping for only a dead active shooter. Please let everybody else be safe :(. So frustrating to see this on my updates. Ugh.

I don't get this. If the LE have a report that there is an active shooter why wouldn't they send officers to at least check it out? Also why wouldn't they medical center call for help?

They did. It's a navy base. Their first responders are closer.

They also sent in K9 Units.

Even so in active shooter cases military facilities usually have also called in civilian LE, such as in the Fort Hood shooting. It's possible procedures have changed but it seems like in such a dynamic and chaotic situation that they would want as much help as they can get.

Wouldn't this mean that the base has to worry about whether the civilian is really a cop or not? That seems additional resources.

I am just thinking out loud and have no idea what the protocols are.
