U have cap space, a lot of teams have cap space, why will Durant or Conley come here?
Bosh hadn't come, Melo hadn't come, Aldrige hadn't come, and next one!

I think the only way Houston could end up with Durant thru free agency are:
    1. Hou beats OKC in a playoff series
    2. OKC falls flat and loses in the 1st round of playoffs
    3. Hou makes it back to WCF
    4. Harden & Howard dominate during playoff run

I don't think all these things need to happen but some combo of them.

I agree that losing Dwight for nothing it's a step back. A very big step back. That's why I wasn't so shocked that/if Morrey called around whether those talks were serious or not to see about what he can get for Dwight. Losing for nothing it's very bad, unless we can put those money in better use, and there is no better use than in paying a star, and there are not many stars lying around waiting to sign in Houston.

The PO doesn't work because it's always in the benefit of the player always. (plus at his age, and with no more capspace spike it's almost a given that he will exercise the full three years).
And I haven't heard of any insurance based on an illegal agreement..I don't know of someone who did it.

Let's say as Dobro said we have like around 50 million in capspace next summer. Where do you think we should spend it on.
-Talk to Dmo and he wants to get his QO and see if he can recuperate value for next season to get paid big cash.
    - Let Lawson go - if his perfomance remains at the level it is now at least.
    - Let Jones go or have already trade him for some expiring + pick.
So what are we doing with 50 million in our pocket?

I just don't see Durant coming here at all..

I think he re-ups with OKC for a year and waits until 2017 so he can get paid $30M per..

The PO is nothing but a risk hedging tool. If Dwight has a career ending injury he collects some cash, if not, he opts out and signs the big deal.

There is nothing illegal about it. Violating the CBA is not a crime for one, and two the wink wink has nothing to do with it really. Howard can approach an insurance company and say listen, I think I can get a 4 year 120 million dollar contract next offseason, based on the fact I had X number of them this year. What premium would you ask for to insure me in case of career ending injury. There is nothing illegal about that.

We will certainly not have anywhere near 50 million in cap space next year.

Beverly's contract was voted in the top10 of most tradeable contracts this deadline :http://basketball.realgm.com/analysis/240565/NBAs-10-Most-Tradeable-Contracts

I believe Convington should have been in that list tbh.
I don't understand what you are saying really. Would you care to explain plz?
Are you suggesting 1+1 per 10 and then a max or are you suggesting a 1 per 10 and then a 3+1 max? Because in the first case Dwight loses money for no good reason and in the second case there is no way that he won't take the Player option to pocket 35.6 million dollars at age 35. (or will it be 36).

Wink wink deals are illegal and if theres any proof like talking to insurance companies or signing any contracts or whatever there can be serious repercussions as the Wolves have learned. morrey ofc is a fox and wont' allow anything like that happen. (i mean caught). I would like to see what insurance company would give such an insurance to 32 y.o Dwight with back history and I would like also to tell me who will compensate Dwight for the insurance $ he will have to pay so as to accomodate the Rockets this year?

We may not have, but it's a possibillity. If we let go of Lawson and Dwight leaves and Jones is trade we will have.

ehm larvs.. you now when I say illegal I dont' mean a crime by law right? I mean illegal per the CBA and punishable by the nba by taking away picks...it's not like you will end up in prison.

    I suggest 2 deals:
-This offseason, a 2 year deal worth ~20m (10m+10m), with the second year a player option, that Dwight will opt out of, so only one year.
    -Next offseason a 3 year deal for ~110 (35 + 36 + 37).
    -So a total of 4 years ~120m. (10 + 35 + 36 + 37)

Dwight takes less this offseason so we have max cap room (Conley, Durant, Horford, Whiteside), to make a run at the ring.

Taking an insurance policy on yourself is not a violation of the CBA, nor does it specifically mean a wink wink deal has been agreed too. Dwight could very well understand the CBA just as much as anyone else and choose to take less on his own. I don't know what the premium would cost (likely a few million bucks), but well worth it considering how things could play out.

And there is precedent here. Morey already played ball with the Parsons agreement.

Re DMo and TJo, would be a very Morey move to keep both and see what the market says about them. He has his fallback position of Harrell if they get too large an offer, and I imagine they see Dekker as a 4. Unless he gets a great deal lined up for either guy it is better to keep them, have the cap space and the option of rescinding the QO to get that extra $4.5m from each guy.

My dream is that we swap Dwight for Horford and expirings, ditch Brewer, and have the ability to go at a max FA and keep Horford - then decide on Jones/ DMo (use them in a s&t even?)

    Is that possible?

I thought the salary can only increase so much each year making that type of deal impossible? Or am I mistaken?

Putney is a much more polished and consistent player now than when he was at UMass or when he played in Australia. He has also played 2 seasons in the D League. I know you are not saying Putney cannot improve, but what I'm saying is look at the improvement he has already made.

Putney is very light, and his post defense needs lots of work. But his perimeter skills are very high, on offense and getting there on defense. His rebounding and rim protection are already elite at the D league level. And D league production is transferable to the NBA, perhaps not 100% but it really depends on the individual. Don't see what it could hurt to give him a 10 day and see how his length, athleticism and shooting translate.

    Thank you for explaining.
Can i ask though if the max deal is promised what's the point of the player option? Dwight will natrually opt out and instead get 25 million more if Morrey pretty much guarantee it for this favour?

Yes you are right about the insurance.
It is illegal according to the CBA if it's one deal. Larvs is suggesting two separate deals.

Who the heck is Putney and why are everyone obsessing over him? If he was that good wouldn't Morrey give him a 10 day before he signed Smith?
Dleague production doesn't transfer to the NBA. There are scrubs who are sent to d-league and score 20 points but when you put them against NBA defences when the looks aren't clean and you know..the other team is actually trying to defend, they barely can score 2 points.

That won't happen in a million years. If it does, there is nothing negative anyone should ever say about Morey again.
