Spoiler The Han Solo death scene felt so anticlimactic. The Kylo Ren Han-Lea son storyline where he's seduced by the dark side. Yikes. The whole movie felt like it was written primarily to get Harrison Ford out of Star Wars. It felt "forced". I'm not even sure I liked the Supreme Leader. He kind of looked like a big turd. I just thought this movie could have been way more original. And, how they only sprung Luke on us in the last scene. That is like one big FU! Now we know why we weren't seeing him in the trailers...cause he wasn't in it. Doh!
I saw Kylo Ren on Law and Order at about 5am today, and it was similar performance. Poor Kylo had to take the stand.
Spoiler Would've crapped my pants if Luke's reveal occurred as Kylo was reaching out for the other lightsaber buried in the snow. Have it fly past both Ren and Rey and right into Luke's mechanical hand.
That was actually what I thought was going to happen. Then it fell on Rey's hand and I was like damnit. And honestly, it's been out for so long now. No need for spoilers. If people haven't seen it by now, then they're not interested anyway.
But this trilogy isn't about the older characters. This scene in particular was one of my favorites of the movie and imo, was perfect just the way it was. And for that matter, when she finds Luke at the hand to him his lightsaber, it was another moment where I got a little choked up. And it left you wanted more and looking forward to what Ep VIII will bring. And as for Avatar...I would be surprised if Cameron ever actually makes it. The only director I can think of whose worse at making movies in a timely manner is Terrence Malick.
Not sure why everyone (the anonymous nerds on the Internet) was making a big stink about the actress playing Lea. She barely had any lines or time on screen...and even if her delivery was a little bland or whatever...her performance was acceptable enough. People on the Internet can be so cruel...tweeting her that she's ugly or washed up or can't act or whatever. It's not like she ruined the film. Harrison Ford did that all on his own. I'm kidding. Harrison was right at home cause he really didn't have to act much. He just had to be aloof and deliver his lines. He was barely acting...is what I would call it. And, he got a $23 million payday or whatever it was. He won the lottery on that one.
The Matrix wasn't anywhere near the success of the other 2, but doesn't feel diminished at all to me or anyone I know, and if anything it surprising that it wasn't more successful. Avatar never felt like a trilogy (or quadrilogy). Honestly don't know what they plan to do with it. I never understood why it did so well, but then again, I didn't see in in theaters and hate 3D. Star Wars continual success was in large parts to their success with toys.
The original Matrix movie wasn't actually that hyped. It was kind of a shock seeing the first time in theaters. It made decent money, but became the phenomenon over time. Avatar was carried a long time by a large contingent of fans that enjoyed the "escapism" of the world in which it was set. It also was a big budget James Cameron film that carries a lot of weight oversees. I always find my self kind of surprised when I see it is the number 1 movie of all time. After its run in the theater and in home release, its almost like everybody forgets about it...you don't see it on TV that much, you never here anyone talking about it, and really...it actually hasn't held up that well over time. Despite making a huge amount of money, it doesn't hold near the cultural significance of a Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, or even the original Matrix. Those are all movies that people from subsequent generations go back and see...does anyone go out of there way to go back and see Avatar?
I thought she did fine. It would be too awkward if the General of the resistance was a Milf. She's been through a lot. failed relationship where her son has killed many and Han and Luke leave her on top of leading the resistance. Very few are gonna come out looking hot.
Avatars only appeal was the 3D. The idea of the Avatar itself was interesting concept, and generally fun to experience out of the gate, but after that, the plot and adventure were relatively boring. The Military took on a giant tree. It was anti progress and pro nature, and while that is admiral, and actually represents the natural course of the world, it does not entertain. I have a hard time seeing where Avatar could go since we did not bind to the characters or creatures all that well. John Carter also failed but had a better sense of adventure then Avatar. So I could actually see a sequel attempt there. But Avatar never gained any momentum.
admiral? avatar was better the first time i saw it when it was called dances with wolves. i also liked it better the second time i saw it when it was called the last samurai.
I assume the reason Kylo Ren wore a mask is, besides his obvious infatuation and helmet envy for Vader, because he just isn't scaring anyone without it. And, who dug Vader's helmet out of the ashes from his funeral pyre? How could he have ended up with that helmet?
Keep in mind, there are 2 more movies on the table. Don't want to blow your load too early. I think this movie was designed to 1) get the fans who are still pissed off about the prequels back and b) leave them wanting more. The ending of V left everyone wanting more and it's generally considered the best SW movie of all. Fisher and Ford's performances weren't Oscar-worthy...but go back and watch the sequels. I mean we aren't exactly talking about Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep here....
I'd rather they make a trilogy on an era where the Sith rule the galaxy and the Jedi are hunted down. But they'll probably make a movie about young Yoda before that ever happens.
I've said this for years. The time between III and IV is the most intriguing to me. That's why I like SW Rebels, even though I'm not a cartoon guy at ALL. I think this Rouge One movie is going to take place in this time period. I've even seen rumors that Darth Vader is going to make an appearance or two. But yeah, a movie about Darth Vader and the Emperor KICKING ASS would be ideal.
