Astros/Fister reports make me happy. He's the guy I've wanted ever since Kaz signed with the Dodgers.
We have the top 1B prospect in baseball at AAA, and quite frankly, before last season Moreland sucked.
Yea why people want guys like Moreland and Morneau I just don't understand I mean if we were talking about a big time player fine But much rather give Jon and then AJ a legitimate chance than sign a guy like that. If 1B doesn't work out by mid season we can go get someone in trade
Prospects can't fly if you don't let them play, and we are 2 deep in 1B prospects. It is a bit of a risk, but locking in a team controlled stud would help so much it's worth it. Risk losing a game or two this year with the possibility that it could help us win a lot more over the next 7 years. And Moreland has a career WAR of 3.7, he's really nothing special.
That's exactly what team control is (namely, the arbitration years)... unless you sign an early extension that buys out your arbitration years.
These are projected numbers that I think are achievable if each players stays healthy and has a good season. Yes..I would bat Tyler White third or fourth in the lineup as things stand now (I am that confident in his hitting tools, mechanics and mental approach). However, it will be a very interesting Spring and we will know more by the end of March. Gattis at Catcher is intriguing. In '13 he threw out 33% but in '14 only 20%. Gomez in the 8 hole in front of Castro would allow him to run A LOT or bunted over for the top of the order. Altuve (.320/40 SB) Springer (.280/.360/35 HR/30 SB) White (.300/.370/25HR) Correa (.300/30 HR/20SB) Rasmus (.250/27 HR) Gattis (.250/30 HR) Valbuena (.240/.325/20 HR) Gomez (.280/.335/20 HR/35 SB) Castro (.230/12 HR) Gonzalez, Marisnick, Stassi on the bench. Tucker, Singleton, Duffy and, eventually, Reed fighting for a spot.
Didn't see this posted anywhere. Astros are one of the five teams. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/162613138/five-potential-trades-for-jonathan-lucroy The trade suggested was Marisnick, Stassi, and Martes for LuCroy. That sounds like a ton of value to send out for him. Is that what it would take? I'd really hate to trade Martes.
If that's what it would take, I understand why the trigger hasn't been pulled yet. I'd want either Marisnick or Martes stepped down a notch in terms of value. (Preferably Martes stepped down to a lesser player given that our top pitching depth was depleted by Philly recently.)
Milwaukee would laugh at that If Lucroy was proven to be healthy and there weren't potential lingering issues with the concussion, I would pay that price I'd rather wait and see how he looks in spring though
I would too. We're in a window where we can compete. Marisnick and Stassi are of limited value. Martes would be a loss, but a AA pitcher is far from a sure thing, so I would pull the trigger if this is what's required.
Of those 4 Martes is easily the most valuable trade chip. Marisnick would be second. Singleton, Stassi and Matt Duffy have very little value in a trade.
I realize that. I think Singleton does have some value. Taking out Martes and inserting another to make it work. I would rather include Fisher. I think we try to hold onto our best pitching prospects.
I think if you replace Marisnick with someone lesser--maybe Singleton is too far, but could be close--it's still viable.
I would make that trade for Lucroy anyway. Fine with me. Adiós Martes. Go ahead and include Singleton as filler too.
