Correct. A broken foot can be much better for one's longterm health than a tweaked ankle.

Perhaps i can bring some enlightenment. I play basketball in my uni, and i tweaked my ankle on the 2nd of January. Doctor said it was a minor ankle sprain. I was able to walk the day after and run a few days after, but until now (3 weeks later) I am still unable to explode, cut or penetrate (I play point guard, and i really underestimated the role that your ankle plays in such movements).

These sort of injuries are hard to gauge, and if Dwight doesn't feel like he can explode off his ankle, its better he doesn't aggravate it. Its not a matter of whether you have the heart or not (regarding some of DD's posts), your comfort level and athletic ability is just not there to help your team on the court.

I understand that different players have different tolerance levels - Dwight's did not LOOK all the bad, but I am not a doctor.

The comment about today is just a general one, that players in past eras were tougher and played through a lot more than the guys do today.

It cheapens the game - IMO. But, I guess resting and minutes restrictions are the new wave....

Something similar happened to me, I was able to walk instantly after my injury, but if it twisted in a specific angle where it was injured, it would hurt a lot. In any case, I think Dwight is the type of player who would play if he could, and my point is: even if it didn't look bad, the injury must be still hurting him quite a bit (just like in my case where I can't beat players off the dribble, curl around screens and all that..making me a useless player to be on the court).

Well, I don't know about players in the past (was born the year we won our first championship), but maybe it can be said that players and medical staff are more careful in the current era?

Hoping for a speedy recovery for Dwight!

And thank goodness for that. Take care of your ankle; having been born a couple of score before you I have dealt with the effects of getting back immediately.

And thank goodness we have Da-ctor Da-coder's analysis.

hell yes. and for less money - inflation adjusted.

but what can you say... this is an era where even hand-checking was eliminated...

Having Bev out again because he tweaked the sprain he came back too early from, doesn't cheapen the game?

Bev is the exception, he and a couple of others just will push themselves.

Are we really questioning the pain tolerance of somebody who played on a torn MCL last playoffs?

Of course we are, this is ClutchFans!! Where all of us are better than the owner/gm/coach/team dr/players! Lol, everyone already forgot about the mcl, and most posters here could've clearly played on a torn ACL and MCL!

But yes you're right, and most don't get it...
