Its a good write up. I disagree with the length of time he needs to sit, though. I think a year at most is all he needs. I think the Aikman comparisons are valid. Whether he's a poor man's Aikman, or an actual Aikman is up to him and where he lands. I disagree about what he says with the Texans, too. I think we'd let him sit. We've got Savage and will probably sign someone. Not only that, but our organization recognizes that we want someone that will be the franchise for 10+ years.
I really love Kevin Hogan. I would pick Wentz over him, but if he is going to be picked far ahead of us, I say draft a RB or TE (and I hate drafting rbs in the first). Draft Kevin Hogan in the 2nd round. No need to get cute and wait for him in the third or fourth.
The more I watch tape, the more I feel like getting any one of Goff, Wentz, Cook or Lynch is a huge win for us. There's positives about each and every one of them. The most important thing for these QB's is really where they end up and if they get the proper development and patience (most young QB's do not). But that's why I'm feeling comfortable with either of them because we've seen Bill turn crap into silver. Give him a first round QB to work with from day one (as in not on the IR and actually getting reps) and I'm confident we get a long-term starter.
Justvlike Bill has turned hoyer into silver? Give me a break. The jury is out on this guy, throwing a playoff game to sheer ignorance. What an embarassment and ppl already letting him off the hook. Wonder if houston fans deserves success because theyre so uneducated an naive. Thats why mcnair treats the city the way he does, no qb on the roster is worth a darn and they are going to feed you guys mediocrity once more and once more fans like you will eat it up.
Mostly due to garbage time and games against the worst teams in the NFL though. It was obvious that there was nothing behind those skewed numbers when he had arguably the worst postseason performance by a QB in NFL history.
How about this? The Super Bowl is in 2 weeks. After today, 12 of the last 13 Super Bowls will have had either Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Ben Roethlisberger in the game. Also 13 of the last 15 Super Bowls will have had one of those 3 players. How hard has the AFC been the last 15 years? Only teams to get to the Super Bowl without one of those 3 QB's were Baltimore and Oakland.
Good article about how Hack is preparing. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoo...ls-are-helping-prepare-hackenberg-for-the-nfl “Take Jared [Goff] or Connor [Cook] and put them on Penn State the last two years,” Christian's father Erick said, referencing the prospects at Cal and Michigan State. “They don't make it through.” The inner circle wouldn't mind if O'Brien and the Houston Texans -- desperate for a quarterback -- took Hackenberg, who has been rated a second-round prospect. “What people don't understand, playing right away, that's a tough job in college,” Christian said. “I was fortunate where I was in a really good situation. I had an awesome coach. I had a great experienced O-line, and I had a dude [Allen Robinson] at receiver.” Hackenberg remains insulated 2,600 miles away from Penn State. His agent -- a former Nittany Lion, Rich Rosa -- is such a family friend he is referred to as “uncle.” Erick Hackenberg is, well, a dad -- his son's biggest advocate. He says O'Brien once told him the only quarterback to pick up his system so quickly “is going to the Hall of Fame.” That would be Tom Brady. “Christian ran an NFL system at 18,” dad said. “[Others] didn't do it with 50-man scholarship roster. He did."
I still stick with my sig. If we can't get Wentz, and it's looking like we can't, I want to trade down up in the second and take Hackenberg. Now, people here will be upset with that, and that's okay. I just don't think Hackenberg will be around by our pick in the second. Dallas, Buffalo, Philly, or really anyone who doesn't take one in the first, and semi needs one may take him. But I still want a first round play maker. Hunter Henry, Elliott, one of the WRs. Someone. If you don't have any of them rated highly, take a lineman.
Might be safer to trade down in the first (assuming a willing partner) and pick up an additional 3rd or 4th. This team needs more picks not less.
I was thinking that, too, but I don't know if we need more picks not less. We need a few offensive weapons, and some depth. If you can find something close to a sure thing offensive playmaker wise, I think you go ahead and do it. Set your young QBs up to be successful. At the same time, multiple picks for depth would be nice, too. We need depth, but I think this regime has proven they can find good depth on the waiver wire and through free agency.
Just a random thought off topic but what does everybody think about Cravens from USC? I think he could be a nice addition to our defense.
From WalterFootball basically echoing my sentiment: Sources with multiple teams have been extremely critical of Penn State head coach James Franklin and his handling of quarterback Christian Hackeneberg. Just to be clear, none of these sources are with the Houston Texans. They say that Franklin was a terrible coach for Hackenberg. These sources have known Franklin for years and feel he is responsible for a lot of the problems with Hackenberg. Franklin tore down Hackenberg and hurt his confidence. They say that Franklin is a rah-rah type of coach who showed a lot of favoritism toward the players he brought to Penn State over the players he inherited from Bill O'Brien and Joe Paterno. On top of Franklin's poor handling, Hackenberg was sacked 103 times in his 38 collegiate games with the vast majority of those sacks coming in the two seasons with Franklin. The offensive line was pathetic, but teams feel that Franklin set up Hackenberg for some failure because he tried to fit a square peg into a round hole from a scheme perspective. They feel a good coach would have adapted their scheme to Hackenberg and the other pro-style players O'Brien cultivated. They say that Franklin never embraced Hackenbarg as his guy to lead the program. The sources from these teams already have franchise quarterbacks and were just calling it like they see it. They believe that Hackenberg could get selected on Day 2. Some around the believe still think that Hackenberg could go late in the first round because there are so many teams that are utterly desperate to land a franchise quarterback.
Hack was really good as a Freshman under BOB then he sucked ass when BOB left. I would take a flyer on him in the 2nd.
